The Wizards have made up their minds on whether or not to pick up the fourth-year options on the contracts of Jan Vesely and Chris Singleton.

And the answer is no, CSN Washington learned late Friday night.

The team has until Oct. 31 to make the decision for the 2014-15 season. Singleton, who has missed the entire preseason because of surgery to his left foot/toe, is entering his third season along with Vesely who was taken No. 6 overall in the 2011 draft. Singleton was chosen 18th.

First-round rookie draft picks get four-year deals. The first two years are guaranteed. The next two are team options.

They still could be re-signed by the Wizards but at lesser than their scale contracts. If they play well this season, they could command more than the scale on the free-agent market though that appears unlikely.

Vesely, who has had mixed success in the off-season after playing in the Las Vegas summer league and the Czech national team, would've been due to make $4.2 million. Singleton, who played in summer league but had to get a screw inserted in his small toe to repair a fracture, would've been due for $2.5 million.

Both became displaced in coach Randy Wittman's rotation last season as they took major steps backwards.

The Wizards will have about $16 million available in salary cap room after this season, enough to potentially lure marquee player with a max contract.

Beal clearly gets extended if they haven't already done it. He is 4.5M next year. Check.

Ves would be 4.4M next year. I think he has done enough that they extend him. He had a decent summer programs. He rebounded well in Euro and he brought that to summer league. Per 36 12.38 though 5 games.

7 ft or 7-1 23 years old and a #6 pick they don't want to get nothing for, I think they will extend him and see if he continues to develop. I would rather he be only about 3M next year but that's the way it goes in this league. You rarely have matching product on contracts. You are almost always underpaying ( Beal ) or overpaying. The goal is to stay away from the way over paying contracts or stuck in contracts for players that can't even crack the line up ( Singleton ) this year.

Singleton - MEH.. He is 2.6M next year. If he is a bust, let him go. Hard to see where he fits on this roster both now or moving forward. And to think he could have been T Harris or Faried. What a bust of a pick. Biggest brain fart pick of EGs tenure. People think it was Ves, but it wasn't. It was Singleton.

So get ready for a board melt down as they extend Ves. But I can see why they would.

You were probably positioning yourself to have Ernie behind you as the pitchforks came for him, but it won't be necessary Hands, it's over.

I think the celebrating will be a bit muted after giving up our first rounder.

how is this good news? It means we sucked for an entire year and had nothing to show for it through the draft selections by Ernie

I posted what I thought they would do, why and how I could understand their line of thinking.

But they went and got Gortat and then announced they didn't pick up the Ves option. Now we see what they do from here. Could be more trades on the way. They could role with what they have. They could try to keep him by signing him more cheaply as a long energy bench player. He could say F it, and go back to Euro ball.

Right now, I don't have a good feel for what might happen next.

I think they have a decent roster for this year, but not sure what it looks like next year with Trevor A, AH, Gortat all unsigned but key players for them this year. Who will they try to keep and for how much and how long ? What will Otto look like and when will he play ? What happened with Ves, Kevin, Booker and Singleton ? Does Glen have a place on the team ?

Maybe they can bring back Gortat and AH on two year contracts.

With all that on the table, you want a GM in place that will be with the team long term. Not a GM playing out the last year of him contract. So if they are going to make a change, now would be a good time to do it.

They have a lot to get worked out here. Can't say feel confident the current front office will make the right moves to create a top team from where they are. I think EG was fine for the tear down. But at this level, there is little margin for mistakes and his batting average isn't high enough to fell confident putting him on the plate with runners on and down 1 in the 9th.

So, we have about 5 million in exprirings in sum of Ves & Singleton. Anything out there we can trade for? If we extend Gortat, than we aren't going to have meaningful cap space anyways. Might try and see what players are available that are not expiring to maximize Ves & SIngleton's expiring deals. Off to the TC!

Glad to see the Wizards willing to move on from those bad draft choices. I think with a likely extension for Gortat, getting some 2 year deals and an incentive would be a good idea.

I hate this decision because EG.

Well this is good news.... as this is what we expected. However still for the life of me cant figure out why we are cutting Marshall and not Singleton.

I don't think we know for sure what the plans are. They could still cut Singleton.

Looking at the Wiretap and seeing

Magic Exercise Options On Vuecevic, Harris, Harkless, Nicholson

makes me really want to puke. All we have is Vesely and Singleton that were not picking up options on because our O So fearless GM is an absolute moron. Ugh........
