GT: Wizards @ Spurs - 11/13/13 - 8:30 PM

I figured I'd start this thread and take the loss for the board. The Wizards face the Spurs tonight. Contrary to some rumors, Duncan will be playing tonight. So basically, we have no chance of winning.
I'm having difficulty expressing in words the level of hopelessness of the task before us. The Wizards have lost 14 straight games to San Antonio and haven't won in Texas since the Clinton administration when Rod freaking Strickland was point guard.
The last time we beat San Antonio was November 11, 2005. It took a legendary effort from Gilbert Arenas (43 points with an eFG% of 85%) coupled with a horrific outing from Duncan (3/18 from the floor) to make it happen; and Gilbert Arenas isn't walking through that door.
Over the last 9 games, we have lost to the Spurs by an AVERAGE of 19 points.
Oh yeah, and we're playing on a back-to-back at the tail end of a road trip. Meanwhile, the Spurs have won 5 in a row.
There is no hope we can win the game. Actually, there is a small hope. Going by the Pythagorean win projection formula using the last 9 games as a guideline, we have a roughly 6% chance of winning this game. Vegas has us as 10 point underdogs. I think they're optimistic.

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?

I'm reminded of a scene from Rocky III. When Clubber Lang was asked for a prediction for his upcoming fight, he looked at the camera and said "Pain".

Randy Wittman can't wait for 10 games.
Before the season began Oct. 30, the Wizards' coach said he needed about that many games to make adjustments to his rotations.
But after the Wizards dropped their second game in a row, 105-95, at the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night he'd seen enough.
The Wizards have failed to hold an opponent to less than 100 points (though they were successful in doing so with the Brooklyn Nets and Oklahoma City Thunder in regulation before going to overtime).
The Mavericks shot 48.8% from the field and outscored them in the paint by eight points with 40.
"We are not playing any defense," Wittman told reporters after his team fell to 2-5. "We are last in the league in points (allowed), last in the league in field-goal percentage (allowed).
"I have to change up our bench. There are something that need to be done rotation-wise."

Actually 10 pts seems reasonable as they'll probably blow us out in 3 quarters and then play their end of bench players for the 4th.

Nate,
I believe in Pop, I believe in Timmy, I believe in TP.
The tank is strong.
I really think the Spurs are winning the title btw, I've watched quite a few of their games and they are playing with an edge and a sense of urgency. The Finals is still fresh on their minds.
Randy should give Temple, Rice and Vesley some burn. Vesley is a better pick and roll defender from what my eyes have seen than Booker who is horrific. Rice can create his own shot, get to the rim and he also can rebound well from the wing spot. Put him and Webster together.
And Temple can't be worse than Maynor but Maynor hasn't been terrible or anything, he's just meh... Temple is just meh but a better defender to boot.

I would like to see Temple over Maynor.
I'd like for Seraphin to sit for a while. I'm sick of watching him screw up. In general, I favor Booker replacing Seraphin, but I could live with Vesely getting a little burn, particularly if the opposing matchup is a fairly tall player.
I also think Wittman has to play Nene with the 2nd unit. Either bring Nene off the bench, or sit him after the first 6 minutes of the game so that he's rested and can come on the floor at the start of the 2nd quarter when Wall comes out.

Wittman can shuffle deck chairs on the Titanic of benches, but the real change on the bench needed to come from Grunfeld. Oh well, maybe next offseason.

And here I was thinking Pine could go one post without Luv-a-bulls pictures.
Shame on me.
(Also, thanks for taking one for the team, Nate. You're a real pal)
