Well, my first thread on the forums , so here goes nothing:

Our backcourt is set, Wall and Beal have proven that they can and will be all-stars in this league (more-so Wall).
Our SF spot, occupied by Ariza, who expires after this year, Otto, and Webby, both of which will be here for a while. With Otto, hopefully were set there as well.

Our PF and C spot.... Nene and Gortat are both great veterans, but both of them are one or two years removed from their prime, with Nene being 31 and Gortat almost 30. Once Wall, Beal, and hopefully Otto hit their primes, these guys will be 34-35 years old.

Who should we target, whether it be through the draft, free agency, or trades?

I say Greg Monroe should be a prime target, as he is already accustomed to the D.C area and is a cornerstone piece. He expires after this year, but what if we were to offer a true SF like Ariza, or maybe Otto and a future 2nd/1st for him? They would at least have to consider it.

What are your guys ideas as to trades or players in free agency or the draft we should target? Gortat is expiring, so what if he leaves?

You don't give up Otto Porter for Greg Monroe. The Pistons have both Drummond and newly signed Josh Smith; they may have been bracing themselves for life without Monroe when they made the signing. Monroe may be able to be had without having to give more than a new contract.

Monroe's really the only big name this season, but if you want to do the patient and right thing, then I think you have to pass on him for a better complement to Nene.

If the org's future doesn't have Nene in it, then I think signing him becomes something to really think about.

Remember after the end of Vesely's rookie year when "The frontcourt of the future" was going to be Seraphin, Vesely, and maybe Chris Singleton?

I give up on the future. An Unseld/Hayes/Dandridge front court would look pretty good.

Monroe was the guy I wanted the Wizards to draft in 2010 before the ping pong balls were drawn; it's his low block average that has me second guessing him as a long-term investment. I want the Wizards to get back to where they were when Okafor and Nene were manning the paint.

Not real sure Monroe is that paint defender I think the Wizards need...

Valid point, but pair Monroe with a marquee shot blocker like, say, Larry Sanders? You need a defensive big to go along with Monroe, which is why Monroe excelled last year along side Drummond.

This is where drafting Noel would have payed off.

The front court of the future is Durant/defensive center. The sooner you start realizing that the better.

As great as it would be for KD to come back home, we can't bank on it. And even if it were going to happen, then it wouldn't be until 2016.

Granted, Durant is well worth the wait, I stil wouldn't bet money on it.

Valid point, but pair Monroe with a marquee shot blocker like, say, Larry Sanders? You need a defensive big to go along with Monroe, which is why Monroe excelled last year along side Drummond.

That's what I say too. I think Nene has two more years left on his deal after this season, I wouldn't want to go through two more long seasons of average paint defense from two highly paid big men. I like Nene a lot, but the only way I'd feel comfortable with Monroe on the roster is if Nene weren't on the roster.

Are you in the mindset of trading Nene? He's big for the team...

I don't ever remember anyone thinking that Chris Singleton was the Wizards SF of the future. As far as I can remember, he has always sucked so bad that no one ever had any faith in him.

He's big for the team, and he's been doing well thus far, but if a good, young defensive center or power forward is offered at a cheaper price, you wouldn't pounce?

Replace Nene with Greg Monroe on this Wizards team, I guarantee you that they would be doing better than they are now, despite their recent success.

So, ridding the team of Nene for a good defensive big opens the door for the Greg Monroe signing over the summer, or the Durant plan in 2016.

Long-story short, Nene for a young, defensive big is something that I would do.

It has to be Monroe. He is a Georgetown alum, has praised the trio of Wall, Beal and Porter to the public media and is going to be available. Are we going to have the cap room to make an offer? I do think he would sign with us, and there is no way Detroit matches a big offer. Even if we don't think Monroe is the final piece, he will keep us competitive, makes us younger in the front court, and gives us a moveable young asset if we want to make a trade in the future for a player like Love, Cousins, or Durant. In fact, Monroe, Porter and a 1st should be a pretty competitive package if an elite player becomes available via trade.

Of course he said it. I'd bet my children's tonsils on it, if I had any. I'd provide a link, but the entire center of operations for the Oklahoma paper who noted the quote was swept away -- presumably to Oz.

Here's the deal though, since you believe me. The more people you tell that true quote to, the more reporters will ask Durant about it and speculate about it in the press. It also increases the likelihood that the idea will be imprinted into the minds of Wiz management. It also will increase the number of fans demanding it. In other words, the more people you tell the more likely said true statement will come to fruition.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Wall, Beal, Otto, and Monroe with any center would be a great young core.
With Gortat, Ariza, Vesely, Singleton, and others coming off the books, that leaves enough for a max salarie, I would think.

If the Wizards determine it's time to move away from Nene, then I'm feeling good about bringing Monroe in. Nene's still the most difficult Wizard to build around IMO; Monroe would be a whole heck of a lot easier to complement with another player.

Monroe took a major step back from the year before last season alongside Drummond. He's actually gotten progressively worse since they added Drummond. He's not a good fit with him.
