BACKUP Game Thread - Wizards vs Magic (12/2/13)

Post#1 » by pineappleheadindc » Mon Dec 2, 2013 9:06 pm

.
Mods, please delete this in case FAH comes in to do a game thread. Just dropping this on the board in case he's somehow been kidnapped or is trapped under something heavy and can't get to a computer to do his duty and start a game thread.

Points of interest for tonight's game:

1. Nene will sacrifice and play with a sore wheel.

2. Victor Oladipo makes his return home to the DC-area.

3. Vegas bookmakers have the Wizards as 6.5 to 7 point favorites for tonight's game.

Blast from the past:

LOl - well done, Pine...

To keep the optimism flowing, here's a thought:

If Atlanta loses in San Antonio tonight...we’ll be 3rd in the East at 9-9.

Evadney. Now I'm wondering what precious bit of information used to reside in my brain before that little factoid booted it out.

Wow, with a thread like this, how can we possibly lose?

For some reason, it got me thinking of sugar cubes and "The Island of Dr. Moreau".

There's a lot of talk about this being an easy stretch of the schedule and that players should get some "rest". I don't like that talk. It sounds like they're not going to take opponents seriously. This could be a trap game.

If they win tonight, it means that not only do they win whenever FAH makes the game thread, but they also win whenever someone hijacks the winning game thread mantle because FAH was hit by a falling piano. Screw EG and his penny ante moves. This is a formula that works.

Agree with Nate.

After tonight, the Wizards have a bunch of days off and don't suit up again until Friday for a home match against the Bucks.

This is the perfect game for our guys to not take seriously, looking forward to a little bit of a break in the schedule.

We must annihilate the Magic. Break their will and send them into basketball oblivion. Make them question their very existence.

really uneasy about this Nene situation. On one hand he's had a history of the "soft" label so you want him to play through it. On the other hand he may be really hurt and why no games are easy for us, this may be the best time throught the whole year for him to rest. Im not 100% comfortable with Wall talking about Nene's "presence" and Gortat talking about 50% of Nene is better than most guys. All that is true but does it make him feel pressure to play when he shouldnt? Is he on the same level as Beal? Remember Beal said that he could duke it out also but doesnt think it will go away if he did. Maybe Nene is duking it out instead of resting like Beal. If thats the case then Id rather him rest. Catch 22

So much for the positive, happy vibes from this thread...hate to agree with nate (and I hope I’m wrong), but he may be right - this has the feel of a classic let down game and a frustrating loss. We have all been through this too many times before with this team… a promising win, a few victories, some potential, some excitement, and then an inexplicable failure to show up in a home game against a bad team.

Ji's wet dream: lazy defense, Afflalo goes off for 30 points, Nene tweaks something and has to sit out the rest of the game, Vesely gets 20 minutes (5 fouls, 4 TOs, 3 pts, 2 rebounds, 1 made FT out of 4 attempts, and one fast break dunk).

Kind of tricky to consider any game a trap with a 2nd unit as smelly as ours. We should win... but, like all games, it will be close. Our starters are as good as all but a handful of starting fives in the league. Our second team would barely be competitive in the D league.

I have a hard time imagining us getting separation from anyone right now.

Gortat with a put back for the game winner.

I expect 9-9 after tonight's game -> plain and simple. No excuses. I pray for Maynor to be average for 9 min of his play that's all. Enough to ask?

The rest comes because of less games, not easier opponents.

I see tonight game as huge. Gotten win this one and keep the train rolling.

At home, division game. Playing for a top slot in the East.

This is the kind of game they usually lose. Lets see if they have learned anything.
