3rd Place in the east

Holy cow I just looked at the standings and we're in 3rd place in the woeful east!!

In the west the same record gets you 12th place!!!

John Wall is coming into his own as a franchise player. If Beal and Porter can get healthy we may have a legit shot at the playoffs.

Wtf is going on with the East.

Wasnt it predicted to be a tougher conference with Rose coming back, Brooklyn rising, improvements in Detroit, and young, rising teams like the Wizards and Cavs?

Then you look on the flip side and you have the Blazers running things? Wtf again. Werent they supposed to be middling, non-playoff team?

Rose injured and injuries to the Nets roster sort of explains the woes and future woes of those teams. But i dont understand New York, can someone let me in on why they are 3-13? I dont think ive seen them this year, maybe when we played them.

The differential seems to indicate they are a good team(West mid-playoffs) who has had good luck so far. Pretty much all their players are in their mid-20s, so they should be at or near their peaks. Usually when a team surprises it is based on defense. However a balanced efficient offense seems to be the key to Portland's success.

JR Smith and Stoudemire have been terrible this year. They lost Jason Kidd, Novak and Copeland who gave them quality minutes. Tyson Chandler missing has been huge. Bargnani has actually been reasonably efficient scoring, but still doesn't rebound or do much else other than score.

Brooklyn has been a major bust and they're going to lose their pick to ATL. They built a Frankenroster and had a gimmick head coach hire. They're one of the worst run teams in the league.

And yet still, I thought their dominant size would carry them to a decent record.

New York's struggles were predictable the moment they lost Chandler. That just isn't a very good team and it's totally combustible. Melo is usually an automatic ticket to the playoffs, but now with this team. Without Chandler, Shumpert is the only player outside Melo that anyone else would really want. And he's not THAT great. They're a mess.

And Chicago is hanging around where they were last season. Rose was awful then got hurt. I didn't see that coming. Without Rose being Rose, they're just not a conference power.

So the path to the three seed opened up before us. Not in the way I predicted, but I did think we could potentially have a special season with some luck.

There's a good chance 45 wins gets you the 3 seed this year. 47 would probably do it. 49 did it last year. I think ATL is our main competition for the 3 seed right now and their team is good. Probably be a struggle with them all year. The Raptors have some talent but it's not well balanced and they aren't that good, I think Boston overtakes them when Rondo gets back. But I don't see the Atlantic winner getting the third seed. That division is really bad this year.

I could see Detroit string together some wins and get into the mix for #3 too.

Meh. Being third this year is probably equal to being an 8th seed most years. The onky good out of this is that wall will get a taste of the playoffs, and learn that he has to develop his half court game. And maybe our pick that gors to yhe suns is a low one. Other than that, this team still has major deficiencies.

Gotta enjoy it because we probably won't get a 3 seed again anytime soon.

Ernie is going to get a multi year extension for having a 3 seed in a watered down conference. Can't make this up.

As bad as the east is this year, anything less than 50 wins should be consider a disappointment. Realistically, this team needs to win 60 games to be considered successful. The vast majority of their games will be against eastern conference teams, and 13 of the eastern conference teams have a record below .500.

I think that's a little unfair when less than 10% of this board predicted 50 wins. We didn't know that Brooklyn and New York would be so bad at that time, but that's just an extra 2 or 3 wins we should get.

Even with the reasoning stated, getting to 60 wins after only winning ...28 games last year
as a standard to judge success by...IDK. That would mean only losing 22 games all season
(math wiz) and since we play 30 games incl 15 away games against the west, that would
be pretty remarkable if not actually historic.

We've already lost 9 games. We can only lose 23 more all season and get to 50 wins.
(math wiz again). That would be a pretty fair accomplishment and way beyond the
general consensus of the board as per our prediction thread.

Got this disgusting email from a Wiz ticket rep today:

I hope everyone had a terrific Thanksgiving and had a chance to watch the red-hot Wizards top the Orlando Magic for our 7th win in our last 9 games! The 8 wins in November were the most by a Wizards team since 1984, and after last night’s win the Wizards have the 3rd best record in the Eastern Conference!

No problem with crowing about winning of 7 of 9. You're a sales guy and you gotta sell.

But BRAGGING about the dubious 8-win high water mark? That's just beyond tone-deaf and pathetic.

Yeah that's an unintentional insult. Don't remind us how awful we've been for 30 friggin years.

Re: 50 and 60 wins as a bar for success, that's some moving goal posts right there. And so now Ernie and Ted go from the movers to the movees.

I talked some Wizards today on NewsTalk on News Channel 8. There's some Nats talk, too, but that comes later so you can just stop watching if you're only into the hoops.
