Wall left off USAB 28-man roster; Beal makes it
This would appear to mean that Wall is out of the mix for the next 3 summers and not in USAB's plans at all. A huge, huge blow.

How the hell Beal makes it is a mystery to me...he's way worse than Wall.

Supposedly Beal has a reputation of being a good jumpshooter. One can only assume that USAB scouts don't watch Wizards games..

Re: Wall left off USAB 28-man roster; Beal makes it
It makes some sense to me. Beal made it under the assumption that he is just 20 and will become a much better player in a few years. Beal projects to possibly be the type of catch-and-shoot team player who would excel as an off-the-ball player alongside primary ball handlers like Lebron, Durant and Chris Paul.
Wall is unquestionably a better player than Beal right now and will probably be a better player than Beal over the next several years, but Wall isn't a very good off-the-ball player and he's not good enough on the ball to take primary ball handling duties over guys like Paul, Lebron and Durant.

Rose and Westbrook won't be participating given recent injury history, so I wouldn't be shocked if Wall sneaks in.

The final roster is 12, isn't it? If he's not in the pool of 28 there's no way he ends up on the team. There are already plenty of point guards to choose from.

Ya while Wall is probably pissed about this,... its probably a blessing in disguise for us. Less chance of him getting hurt. Would be a huge blow if he got injured playing/practicing in this.... Beal most likely doesn't make the 12 man team either. So hopefully he stays injury free when participating with this squad.

I see it as a blessing in disguise for Wall and a potential curse for Beal. More wood to stoke Wall's fire inside is never a bad thing IMO. Beal however could use a little less applause and pats on the back when he hasn't really earned it yet.

In the classic style of "ready-fire-aim" bloggers worldwide, I wrote a piece today about Wall not belonging on the national team, only to recognize after the fact that I hadn't made the case at all because I was really looking at an entirely different question the whole time.

I think this is a conspiracy formulated in Dallas to demoralize Wall and injure Beal

This is unfortunate. Yeah, I can see the silver lining of Wall not having to risk injury playing international ball, but I was hoping that he'd get a chance to go on those trips and lobby other players to come to DC. I suppose that could still happen, but it probably won't be as convenient.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

A part of me hopes that Wall gets snubbed for the all-star game and gets so pissed off that he destroys the rest of the league. But I'd really like to see him in the all-star game, it's a shame he didn't make the roster, but it's not a shock that coach K gave the spot to his dukie kyrie irving.

Bradley Beal has history with and is known by the international team. He has played for the Team USA squads and lit up competition since he was 15.
The international game needs shooters, and Beal is a prototypical 2 guard. John may make the squad following injuries or age of PGs in front of him, but he's no lock to make it. Key though is that John needs to develop his off-the-ball game to be an easy fit with the style played in Int'l ball. Brad has already proven a perfect fit.

However, playing international ball with the elite players may rub off on Beal as it did for the other young stars who have played at the World Championships and Olympics in recent years.
I do agree though that Beal is very overrated. This kid isn't good... yet, very frustrating to watch his lack of development so far.
As for John, I'm sure he'll be called up at some point. But he should learn to play without the ball...

PG is simply a much deeper position than SG at this point of time. Guys like Wall, Lowry, are all Lawson are all better than Beal at this point in time. But those pgs are also better than guys like Thompson and Korver.
Beal is pretty young, he's only 20 years old, the same age that Wall was during his rookie season. Like Melo, they will get Beal to stay away from that midrange in international play and just shoot 3s where Beal is 43% on the season.

I'd rather have Lawson and Conley than Kyrie. Its all politics. Shouldn't defense matter?

Re: Wall left off USAB 28-man roster; Beal makes it
It's a snub considering all of the 2 guards except Harden that made the cut are worse players than Wall, and a couple of the PGs too.
On the one hand, I'm glad he'll have his summers free, because it's a big commitment.
On the other, I look at that 2010 WC team and notice how so many of the young guys from that squad blew up the next season--Rose, Westbrook, Durant, and Kevin Love all made huge strides in 2010-2011. I think playing on Team USA was a part of that.

I can certainly understand a couple more point guards making it. Especially since guys like Wall and Westbrook have the size to play shooting guard guard in international ball. But it isn't something that I don't think they will regret. Guys like Wall, Lawson, and Lowry may be better players than Beal, Thompson, and Korver but maybe not necessarily at playing off the ball which would be best suited if guys like LeBron are going to be handling the ball a lot anyways. Those guys may just have to knock down 3s.
Still, I have a feeling Wall should have a shot and it might be his best interest to do so- Rondo got one on the 2010 World championship team and even though he didn't make the final roster, he played with a chip on his shoulder that ultimately helped the Celtics go to 7 games against the Heat.

Who cares about the shooting guards, Wall is a better option than most of the PGs they took. I wouldn't take Rose, Deron, Lillard or Irving over Wall. Of course I'd take Conley and probably Lawson over all of those and strongly consider Oladipo, Beverley and Bledsoe over most.
