After making the preseason Gortat trade, Ted Leonsis finally gave Ernie Grunfeld the boot and hired me to construct a contender out of our Washington Wizards. My first order of business was to schedule a one on one meeting with Ted and discuss goals for the upcoming season.
Ted gave me the following goals….
1. Play Otto Porter an average of 24 minutes/night
2. Sign a 6th man rated 74 or higher
3. Improve upon the 2012 season record
I agreed to improve the team record over the 2012 season and stated that we might be able to sign a 6th man rated 74 or higher. As for Otto Porter averaging 24 minutes a night….I told Ted that this would be difficult given the current makeup of our roster.
After my meeting with Ted the next order of business was to get with Randy Whitman to speak about the roster and best rotation to help us win. We agreed to TRY the following…
John Wall – 36 minutes per night
Bradley Beal – 34 minutes per night
Trevor Ariza – 32 minutes per night
Nene – 30 minutes per night
Marcin Gortat – 32 minutes per night
Garrett Temple – 12 minutes per night as primary backup PG and wing defender
Martell Webster – 24 minutes total. 14 minutes a night as primary backup SG, 10 minutes as backup SF
Otto Porter – 6 minutes per night as backup SF
Trevor Booker – 18 minutes per night as primary backup PF
Kevin Seraphin – 16 minutes per night as primary backup C
Jan Vesely – Plays to bring hustle and energy when Booker/Seraphin are struggling or injured
Chris Singleton - Plays in spot situations in smaller lineups as a PF and additional wing defender
Al Harrington – Plays in spot situations to bring added offense off bench as a stretch 4
Glen Rice JR. – Plays in spot situations to bring hustle and energy off bench
Eric Maynor – Does not play and looking to trade for a bag of chips or mambo sauce
Offensive Focus – run & gun, inside and outside attack, crash offensive glass
Defensive Focus – man to man, pressure ball, box out
Primary Scoring Options
1. John Wall
2. Bradley Beal
3. Nene
Let me know your thoughts on our lineup strategy and I will keep you posted about the team after simulating through 20 games in the season.
