Saw this on realgm
and what caught my attention is that he has expressed interest in running a front office.


Could this be a good move to move him into the Wizards staff to someway move EG out?

Well public opinion is largely that we did MJ dirty... we all know he had it coming... but that may not bode well for our chances even if Phil was remotely considering it.

That was Abe Pollin so I don't think it matters that much.

Ted would never spend the kind of money it would take to get Phil.

I think we should assign Wilbon to talk about this subject. He'll work it out.

I want "zen master" on the Wizards staff. But, I dont think "zen master" will make for a good GM or front office manager for the Wizards . Thats not to say he wouldnt make a good GM or manager at all...I think he would make a good one. Just not for the Wiz, even though it could be exactly what we need.
I am an advocate for hiring someone who can instill some personality and firm direction for the team. "Zen master" is a master of manipulation. He has a BIG personality. I live in San Diego. His personality was so big, it went from LA to San Diego. Washington DC is not big enough, believe it or not. He would eat Teddy up in one bite. Not even one chew needed. Gulp and done. "Zen Master" would insist on his way. Demand it. Get it. He will want Teddy to be asking him "can I have more soup please?"...and that will not go well with Teddy.
Having said that, it is exactly what the Wiz need. A big personality that dictates the personality of the team, with a firm direction for the team, demanding good work ethics from everyone with consequences if otherwise. Yes, its what we need. And thats why we will not get it. Besides, he would want a percentage ownership of the team, 1 billion dollars, the dalai-lama, and 8 chickens as payment...each year. He is negotiable on the chickens. Teddy will not go for that.

Phil Jackson is insanely overrated IMO. Obviously this is NBA sacrilege, but when has Phil not had the best roster by a huge margin to work with? Maybe he's great at implementing the triangle or at managing superstar personalities, but I don't see any evidence that he'd be a great GM.

Not saying he was a bad/mediocre coach or anything, but I don't want a guy running our front office who doesn't even know the value of corner 3s.

idk. elite coaches like Phil, popovich, Larry brown, and doc rivers, have alot of say on who is on their teams and who the front office should target to make their system work. they tend to be the de facto gms of their teams as far as the makeup of the roster is concerned. they are also often used as part of the "pitch team" for highly valued free agents.

there is no reason he shouldnt be a great gm.

eh, he went to a really bad lakers team and built them up to make three straight finals and a repeat

Kobe, Pau, and Lamar is not all that great on paper as a core

A) Would love Phil here. Exactly what we need is a high profile genius.
B) Wasn't Ted the one who convinced Jordan to come? And wasn't the disagreement between Pollin, who wanted to maintain control of his team, and Ted who somewhat promised Jordan that control would ultimately slip to him after Pollin's retirement? In other words, isn't Ted actually good at, and fine with, bringing in high profile names?

Dont get fixated on a name. He has proven nothing at all as a GM. Its not the same job at all. Why would I be so giddy about getting Phil to be our GM when he's never done anything in that position? Just because he was a great coach.

On top of that, as good as he was as a coach, I wouldnt want him on our team. He doesnt run a system based on a PG so it would further devalue Wall. Infact, his GM thinking may be on the same line. He may want to get a triangle coach in here or doesnt care about Wall enough to fit the system & talent around him. I wouldnt do that

I would drive him personally in his golden voodoo chair. And Im from Europe.

I was ok with that too. IDK why but I just trust Riley more then Phil. Riley didnt always have stacked teams and Riley seems like more of a pure die hard bball guy while Phil seems like the type that would like to be away or part time in bball. I dont think I feel the same passion from him as I do Riley. My point is Id rather have some kinda understudy in a great system. LIke an OKC guy or something like that. At this point its all a game of guessing because we dont know how any of them will turn out but Im just saying that we are talking about him like he's going to be our coach when its really our GM which being great at one thing doesnt mean you will be great at the other. Ask MJ.......lol

Phil Jackson in the capacity of team president would be something I could get on board with.

Phil being here would automatically make guyz like love and durant think about it though.

and besides at this point the possibility of Phil seems like the only chance that eg gets fired.
