Key addition(s): The Truth
Key question: How quickly before Paul Pierce fits in?
Pierce should give the Wizards more offensively than Trevor Ariza did, but it took him a while to find his way in Brooklyn last season, and Ariza had great chemistry with John Wall, leading the league with 81 corner threes. Pierce attempted just 22. Either way, this is one of the deepest teams in the league.

Is SF going to be a position of relative weakness or strength? I have no idea.
Got an aging but future HOFer and a promising but unproven rookie to go along
with a OK-ish but injured returning vet. All to replace a guy who was one
of the best 2-3 players on the team.
We have much better depth than last year when that was clearly
a huge weakness.
If you start with the premise that all 8 WC playoff teams are ahead of us than
that makes us 4th in the east. Not an unreasonable prediction/status.

Dallas, Chicago, and Houston all stand out to me. I think we could potentially be better than all 3. Dallas at 4 is really surprising, and no one knows how good Chicago will be. It depends on Rose. They could very well be a first round exit again.

I have the Suns (if Bledsoe returns) and Hornets ahead of us... that would put us 14th.
That would make us superior in our mediocrity?

Chicago added - Gasol, McDermott, Mirotic as well as Rose to their team from last year... I think the question if we were in the west would be, could we steal the 8th seed.

When looked at through the lenses of reason, logic and analysis, 12 is comprised of a one and a two. An either/or. But, you can't have "either" and "or" -- a key lesson taught by the sages through the ages is that a thing is what it is. We must reduce this ranking to its essential being. So, one minus two is a negative one. Since it's the offseason, and we're all "true" fans, we can't be negative. Therefore, two minus one is one. So it's clear the Wizards are actually power ranked as the best team in the NBA.

is Rose actually going to be an addition?
I would argue that last year, even though he appeared to be largely recovered
athletically, he was not producing effectively. Now he has had yet another
injury and missed additional time. Penny, Gil? If I am a Bulls fan, I'd be very
careful about counting unhatched chickens.

But Chicago, even without Rose, was a better regular season team than we were.
As we now know, talent evens things out come postseason but as long as they have Noah & Gibson along with Thibs coaching them, you can pencil Chicago down for around 50 wins no matter what.

Pierce is not the main key to the Wizards success it's Wittman and how he's going to handle a full season with playoff experience and if he's healthy. If Wittman is healthy that's a guaranteed a deep run in the playoffs.

I recall when Joe Gibbs had a boil on his lower back/upper thigh. His coaching suffered. Wittman's health is the key to the kingdom.

I think Hidden Eye is on to something. We need to sign a backup coach immediately. If Witty goes down we're f*cked. We keep talking about Andre Miller being old. How old is Wittman?!?! Can we really rely on him to coach 82 games at his age and with his knees??

#12 sounds about right, give or take. If they're better than that, they can prove it on the court. I'd rather see that than see them ranked 7 or 8 to start, as the "next big thing," only to fast forward to "has been" while we're out at lunch.
