2014 PRESEASON CONCERN -discussion thread

Post#1 » by Knighthonor » Mon Oct 13, 2014 3:11 am

Here to discuss some concerns and possible suggestions from the Preseason games.

*1)Well the biggest, is Beal of course. He was injured.

*2)Paul replacing Ariza, this seem to be lacking right now. Maybe Paul should be the 6th man.

*3)Porter not starting, I believe Porter should start over Paul.

*4)John Wall's performance has changed, his game has changed, maybe this has something to do with a change of coaching. This is a big concern going forward, especially if he wants Durant here.

*5)Suspensions

*6) 3 ball need to improve, and I believe this is partly to do with the lost of Ariza (and now Beal as well), and the performance of the current 2 SFs. But Rice been slacking a bit, but maybe this is due to the coach lost.

*7) offense seems lacking all together right now.

It's only preseason though. Things can get better.

But what's your concerns you have noticed about the Wizards right now? And what suggestions you have for the Wizards to improve the Wizards?

1. It happens

2. The Wizards are going to have to experiment with this. Pierce still has something left in the tank, but I'm not sure how well he works with Wall atm. I'm going to see how he plays in the regular season before I pass judgement, but using him as the 6th man MIGHT be the best move, as you say. One odd thing is he hasn't looked to shoot many threes so far, he shot well last year so I'm not sure why this is.

3. I dont think we have to rush into anything right now. Whether he starts or comes of the bench there will be minutes for him to contribute.

4. This is a big one. I don't think the team has been constructed with the fact in mind that Wall is the teams franchise player. The lack of spacing really hinders Wall's ability to create for others, and with Webster and Beal out for a while I expect this to be a major problem.

5. Its only one game. It sucks but I doubt it matters in the long run.

6. Its a vicious cycle. No spacing means Wall can't penetrate which means no good looks from three which means no spacing. Need Beal and Webster to get healthy.

7. Yup

Its not all bad though, the frontcourt as a group has rebounded very well and the overall defense of the team has been great. Rice has mostly sucked but he has been very impressive on defense, I could see him being a great ball hawk. Seraphin has looked fluid on offense and while hes fouling alot, he is at least contributing on the boards. He seems to be very confident in his right handed hook shot. Porter has been a great glue guy, he can score, rebound and make the slick pass from time to time.

Why hasn't Pierce seen any minutes at the 4 yet?

I think this is a great thread, Knighthonor.

I am glad that you and others are looking at the preseason games closely. Trends in the preseason could end up foreshadowing what will happen in the regular season.

I have not watched the games. I cannot respond to the specific questions you pose. But I do think it's a good time to be asking those questions.

It is better to be proactive than reactive after there are big problems

Right now, with who's healthy, Miller is a better match for the team than Wall is... And that's a real concern.

We need a team that can play at a higher tempo around Wall.

Not really a concern more a positive.
I've been impressed by our defense so far this pre season. It's been probably in the top 2-3 best team defense so far and our rebounding in general has been massive.

Our offense though, has been deplorable. Silas is leading our scoring but we do have a fairly large spread of scorers which bodes well for our bench roration this year.

We have probably been one of the best 5 defensive teams the last two seasons it's just a matter of time before our offense catches up and we become a real force. I don't see us getting out rebounded very often this season either.

I dont agree. I think Wall has improved alot the last 2 years in the halfcourt. I expect him and the team to figure it out

It's the pre-season so beal is the only concern. Wall is a playmaker and in the preseason it's like practice. We will be fine

We talkin bout practice man.

That's essentially what preseason is, glorified practice.
