WIZARDS ANNOUNCE WALE AS CREATIVE LIAISON

Wale will be part of numerous initiatives, beginning with the team's home opener on Saturday, Nov. 1 against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Wale's songs Ambition and The Work will be included in the team's opening video throughout the season, and he will perform live on opening night as part of player pregame introductions. He will also partner with the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation to participate and promote a charitable project in partnership with the Wizards.
"I'm excited to start building as the creative liaison for the Washington Wizards," said Wale. "As a D.C. native and lifelong Wizards fan, this is truly an exciting and organic relationship for me. We've got some exciting projects up our sleeve that will roll out throughout the season so be on the lookout."
Throughout the season the Wizards and Wale will collaborate on designs for team merchandise as well as social media promotions and content for Monumental Network. Wale currently has 3.9 million followers on Twitter and 1.5 million followers on Instagram. Born in Washington, D.C., Wale attended Quince Orchard High School in Gaithersburg, Md.

Jokes aside, I think this is fine. Wale's brand isn't nearly as big as those of other musicians with official relationships with teams, but he's definitely ride-or-die for the DMV.
I doubt much (if any) money changes hands; this enhances Wale's brand as much as anything else. So, eh, why not?

I will say, though, that if Wale is now officially on the Wizards' payroll, he can't do any more overt recruiting of players signed to other teams. Now, I suppose, he can team up with players under contract w/ other teams to recruit football players to the Skins. But everything Wizards-related will need to be more subtle.

This is sad actually, Wale is a mediocre rapper. More mediocrity for the franchise.

I disagree about Wale being mediocre. I think he's a good, not great but solid.

Still Got My Nike Boots and a few other tracks were really good, but otherwise he has disappointed. Nice dude who likes to represent the DMV though.

I couldn't even tell you what Wale sounds like (I guess I'll find out soon enough) but I saw Drake perform on a Sprite commercial, and man oh man, that was the second best song I've ever heard. I don't need to hear any more, because I don't see how he could top it.
