.Yeah it was way too close. But this ain't synchronized swimming there ain't no style points in basketball. With that, let's go to our player of the game nominees.

More often than not, John is overlooked in these POTG threads because of high expectations. He played well, aggressively getting to the line. But there would be no POTG thread without Butler. He prevented our first home loss - to a bad at team at that. I knew he was a veteran but not 35 years old. He really saved our asses in the 4th. Our depth is spectacular, but if I hear one more ignorant commentator call the Wizards young, I'm going to go nuts. This is and old, old team with a tiny handful of promising young guys.

Butler definitely gets the vote here. Hump was big off the bench as well.
Wall missed some bunnies inside, again. However he was attacking and had only 1 turnover.

Butler was outstanding...
Wall was aggressive like we haven't seen much in a year or so... Very good leader tonight .
Three other guys were quite good: Hump, Pierce and Marc.
And the winner is.... Wall. Loved how he brought it tonight.

Butler as a Raptor
In total, Butler is shooting an embarrassing 23 per cent (14-of-61) from the floor and is a laughable nine-of-41 (21.9 per cent) from three-point range.
So naturally, most people are pointing out that Butler, a normally decent shooter, is just having an off-year. But that’s not the case. The fact is that Rasual Butler has rarely ever been a good shooter.
Butler, 32, is currently in his 10th NBA season, and yet he’s only cracked 40 per cent from the field four times and hasn’t shot better than 43.3 per cent since the 2003-2004 season. He’s a career 39.9 per cent shooter who hits just under 36 per cent of his three-point attempts.
In short, he’s a very inefficient offensive player who misses way too many shots to make his average three-point stroke or average defence worth trotting out on the floor.
Worst Players in Raptors History
Shooting guard - Rasual Butler: Signed just prior to the start of the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season, I can only guess that Butler was supposed to bring veteran leadership and shooting. Instead he submitted one of the worst seasons in franchise history, somehow starting 14 games despite shooting 30% and posting the fifth lowest PER in the league. As a non-shooting shooter, he'll complement Palacio nicely to form the exact opposite of the Steph Curry - Klay Thompson backcourt.
Only goes to prove every dog has his day.

It was Wall. We don't win without Butler. But we get blown out without Wall. But I understand throwing Butler some love though, it was a brilliant shooting night for him.
Pierce, Gortat, Nene, and Humphries all made huge plays too, particularly down the stretch. We don't win without their specific contributions either.

butler.
wall was great offensively but his defense has been not so great. what was that the 3rd or 4th pg to hit him up for 25+ this season? teams are taking of advantage of his lazy pnr defense. hopefully he gets it together.

The good news is that the dogs (Temple and Butler) are having a few good days while Beal is out. But obviously we can't expect it to happen consistently.

Gotta give it to Rasual Butler.
Other guys played well too, but Butler played well every second he was on the floor! Plus, whenever I focused on his defense, he looked to be doing a good job there too -- using his outstanding length and pretty good athleticism.
Butler was the #52 pick in 2002 -- kudos to the guy for the career he's made for himself (not to mention the millions of $$ he's collected along the way!). Even if we don't keep him when Beal gets back, last night's performance is likely to earn him an NBA job somewhere for the rest of the season -- you can bet his agent smoked an expensive cigar last night!

And you can read the same quotes about Martell Webster before he got here, and Trevor Ariza, and Garrett Temple... They're streaky or if guarded they can't get their shot off, if they don't have a wide-open shot it's an adventure and they try to overdribble, etc, etc. Question is why do they suddenly find utility here? Answer is: the
John Wall effectPOTG is Johnwall. This game, every game. Rasual Butler can hit a wide open J standing alone in a gym, the pressure wall puts on other teams to react to his speed means players like Butler, Ariza, Webster -- they all end up with wide open shots standing, well, in a crowded gym. But same basic thing.

butler just shot well. Wall controllled the game every second he was on the floor and in multiple aspects. Hump was more important than Butler
