GT #18: Nuggets @ Wizards 7 PM (CSN/99.1 FM) [12/5/14]

YOUR Washington Bullets are 12-5! Coming off another big home victory, this time vs. Kobe and the Lakers, they complete the four game home stand vs. the Denver Nuggets.

The Nuggets are currently at 9-9 and have overcome a tough start. About half of their roster has returned from devastating season ending injuries from a season ago. The Nuggets suffered a heart braking loss to the Blazers in their last game.

This looks to be a fast paced game, the Wizards may have to slow it down to a grind pace and make the game ugly. I just hope Wall can stop taking long twos so early in the shot clock. He should have an advantage over Ty Lawson. Then again, Ty is a guard that normally cooks Wall.

Similar matchup to the Hawks last week that the Wizards lost and didn't play well. 20 turnovers killed us.

Denver is 9th in offense and 24th in D -- a similar mirror image to the Wiz that the Hawks were. Nuggets have also been playing much better after a terrible start. This is a game we need to take care of on home floor.

Denver has the highest foul rate in the league. That means we need to get our asses to the free throw line by going strong to the cup and not settling for long 2's. Did I mention Wall was 0-5 on long 2's against Atlanta?

Take care of the ball and take good shots. Let Vale be Vale. We'll be good.

I want to see Uncle Dre cross up Lawson for an easy layup then wink at Brian Shaw as runs back down the court.

That alone will make my night.

Nene was a full participant in practice today. I can only assume that means he'll play tomorrow.

Though it's Nene we're talking about so I guess nothing is a certainty.

Not sounding like it.

This wasn't the full practice anticipated for Nene (foot). Light work. No 5 v 5. Unlikely to play Fri #WizardsTalk #NBA #WizNuggets

Listening to him interviewed, I don't think he will play DEN. Not unless they have a full on 5-5 practice before the game tomorrow.

Denver has definitely been getting things going as they are getting healthier.

Like us, not that they have been a lot of overly tough teams. They did beat CHI and played POR close last game.

http://espn.go.com/nba/team/schedule/_/ ... er-nuggets

When you are competing for first in the East and honestly just trying to be top 4 as the East is getting tougher at the top, every game is a big game. We are just one game over ATL and CHI

Big game. I really hope they can bring the D and hold Lawson in check. Hum has to body up Faried and get physical but that what Hump does so its great to know we have him on the team.

Well I think he was for the practice they had. Its just it wasn't a full 5 on 5 practice and that's what they are waiting on. Sounds like Randy is in no big hurry to get Nene back because the last two games Gortat has been balling with Hump.

I think in the past they would try to wait as long as they could with Nene, but would also get him back as soon as possible. Now with depth, they can lean toward the other side of the equation like I think they will do with Webster. May as well let him get 100% as long as they are playing well and winning anyway.

Wizards’ Nene could return from right foot injury against Nuggets Friday night

The Washington Wizards, winners of three straight games, may receive a boost Friday night against the Denver Nuggets. Nene, the team’s starting power forward, could return to face his former team after missing the Wizards’ past five games because of right plantar fasciitis.

“We’re going to look to see with him at shootaround tomorrow, and hopefully he can get some time tomorrow,” Coach Randy Wittman said. “But it all depends on, obviously, tomorrow and seeing how he feels. But it’s close.”

Nene, 32, participated in the Wizards’ light practice session Thursday but hasn’t played in five-on-five action since he was sidelined six minutes into Washington’s win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Nov. 22.

I think this is more telling..

http://www.csnwashington.com/basketball ... ace-return

With Paul Pierce (big right toe) sitting out, the Wizards (12-5) didn't do any 5-on-5 drills and took it easy Thursday. That left Nene a tad less optimistic about his chances to play until he puts his foot through a more strenuous test. It could be a situation where Nene is activated vs. the Nuggets and only gets put in for a few minutes at at time, possibly to end the first or second quarter, and then go from there.

"How am I going to know?" Nene said when asked if he thought he'd play. "It's hard to say specifically. It's improved... You can't simulate things in a game. That's the thing. You can't simulate in practice. Games, you don't think you just react. In practice you can (stop) a little bit when things go wrong. That's what I need to play, see how I feel playing 5-on-5, defense and that kind of testing."

The good thing for Nene is the supporting cast is so strong, the Wizards no longer rely on him so heavily to succeed. Marcin Gortat is playing his best basketball in his second season here, Humphries is a rebounding machine and Drew Gooden's ability to stretch to the three-point line gives Wittman lots of options.

"In the past we didn't have the kind of effective bench. This season wee have players who can step in and send a message," Nene said. "Our bench is solid right now. We've been playing really good ... It's a good thing to me because I won't have that urgency to come back earlier or rush."

---

Anyway, looking forward to seeing what the team looks like with Nene off the bench. Its an expensive option but they can afford it for now. Nene off the bench could make this team nasty deep up front and a load for other teams. Plus Nene against back ups could be very effective. Specially out there with Miller, Rasual, Otto and maybe Gooden.

And eventually, they can even use Webster if needed. And they still have Blair and Kevin in the wings.

Thats a deep team.

The Nuggets are a team full of very talented players. Lawson and Faried are like lightning and thunder in transition. They have IMO more athletic players than the Wizards. They are not the same kind of grinders and seasoned vets. But this team can flat match talent with the Wizards if Lawson is on point.

I HOPE Nene comes back. He's bigger than Faried and can do what he wants if healthy. His old team is the PERFECT game to come back. He probably noticed Humphries grabbing 20 rebounds. Nene's foot probably started feeling better right after that game. :)

Nate Robinson scares me if he's healthy.

Pam McGee, if you or anyone who knows you still lurk the board, I'll always recall how fine you were back in the day! I looked good back then, too. :)(I post this because I got a response once from someone. Maybe her or Javale. I defended Javale against the board back when the Wizards and Momma McGee were at odds.)I must confess, I have really blown up. Not in a good way, I can't lie. I'm fat now. I am working on getting back in shape to play pick up games and to roll in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I digress ...

Denver is a deep team but with no real stars to carry the team with Lawson there best player. Walls is better but right now they are deeper. That said you definitely have better players at PG, SG & C so look for a win.

Perhaps Nene may be gearing up to play against his former team. The Wizards swept the Nuggets in the 2012-13 season. With Nene injured in both game, the Nuggets swept the Wizards last season.

I wonder if Andre Miller is looking forward to the rematch. The Nuggets have a couple former Wizards themselves with Javale McGee, Randy Foye, and Alonzo Gee. MIA-Jan Vesely.

the best thing about that interview was Nene talking about our depth and a minutes restriction. Would to love to see him buy into a 6th man role. Could make us alt better. I dont mind him starting though because i think he wants to pass more now which will help Beal out and maybe make him a 20pt scorer

Wizards 115 - Denver 95

Wall - 21pnts 13 assist 4 rebounds 2 steals, 2 blocks - shooting 40%
Beal- 25pnts 5 assist 6 rebounds 2 steals shooting 50%
PaulP 12 points 2 in first 3 quarters and 10 points in the last 4 minutes of the game
Humpries 10 and 10-

Javel dunks in the wrong basket because he forgets he doesn't play for us- passes the ball to wall- blocks one of walls lay ups - attempts to dribble full court and gets picked from behind- makes an amazing dunk and gets 4 nominations for shaqtin a fool!

Book it fellas!

in one of our recent meetings we dominated them on the boards and held
Faried WAY under his usual numbers. Could lightning strike twice?

Looks like both Nene and PP will play - is that a good thing? Shouldn't we rest them one more game? Two more games of rest? And then rest them on one of the two back-to-back games against Boston?
