All-Star 2015 weekend

We might as well put the chatter leading up to the ASG in a single thread. Mods: feel free to move around.
I'm watching TNT's NBA Tip-Off show. Shaq picked *both* Gortat and Beal as All-Star reserves. Kenny and Chuck didn't pick any (Kenny picked three Hawks to come off the bench; Chuck picked *four* Hawks). EJ picked Gortat.
So, does Gortat actually have a chance to get in as a reserve -- in a conference with Noah, Horford, and Bosh?

Surprisingly Gortat was just 70k votes behind Carmelo Anthony for a starting spot, and received more total votes than Chris Paul did.

Would love to see Gortat get in. I don't know about deserve but hell, we've sucked for so long, I'll take every All-Star we can get. Plus, Gortat is at worst a pretty damn good C.
I wanted to see Wall in the dunk contest, but looks like he's not participating this year. He said he might do the skills contest though. Would like to see Beal in the 3 point contest again, since he had a strong showing last year.
Gotta rep D.C. as much as possible. We went through some loooong ass stretches in the late 90s/early 00s with no representation at all(I do remember Tracy Murray in the 3 point contest one year), now is the time to be greedy.

Nobody else on the Wizards deserves it, except perhaps Nene. And Nene doesn't play enough minutes to produce the gaudy numbers you need to attract attention.
I really hope at least 3 Atlanta Hawks players make it, if not 4. They're remarkable.
The starters are Wall, Lowry, Lebron, Melo and Gasol. Just add the 4 Hawks plus Butler, Wade and Bosh.

Kyle Korver deserves it - just keeps getting better every year - at 33 years old. Whatever he's doing to improve, people should be copying. 74% TS% is sick.

Beal should definitely be in the 3pt shooting contest. Maybe even Rasual Butler.
And I'm with Nate re: Gortat. No way in hell does he deserve to be an All-Star. Love the guy but c'mon, he isn't having an All-Star season.

Gortat before Vucevic, best big guy in the East? Those two are not even close!
Give me one guy with a better numbers that Vucevic!

As much as Lowry deserves it, I was excited to see a Dwade/Wall backcourt.

Vucevic per-3619.9pts

The Hawks are dope, but 4 all-stars would be a bit hard to stomach. I could see the coaches leaving one off so that another team could get represented (not sure who, admittedly). But I don't see the coaches leaving one off so that the Wizards can get two.

Vucevic has gaudier stats, but that 15-30 record won't win him any favors. The East is already stuck with Melo; I don't see them rewarding Vucevic over a fourth Hawk.
Moose Monroe, OTOH...
per-36:
18.5pts
12.1rbs
2.5asts
PER: 20.5
I could see Moose getting a surprise nod, in acknowledgment of how hot DET has been since they got rid of Josh Smith.

The PPA All-Stars (using per game production with a minimum of 30 games played):
Code: Select all
EAST PLAYER
G Butler
G Teague
FC Lebron
FC P.Gasol
FC Horford
G Wall
G Lowry
FC Millsap
FC Love
FC Bosh
O Korver
O Irving
Four Hawks deserve to be on the team. Vucevic and Irving were essentially tied. Someone deserving has to be bumped if Carmelo Anthony plays.
Code: Select all
WEST PLAYER
G Curry
G Harden
FC Davis
FC Jordan
FC Chandler
G Paul
G Lillard
FC Aldridge
FC Cousins
FC M.Gasol
O Thompson
O Duncan
Frontcourt replacements for Aldridge would logically be Zach Randolph or Blake Griffin.
Backcourt replacement for Kobe should be Mike Conley.

Probably not. You also have to think about the two "V" european guys - Vucevik and that dude in Toronto. Millsap, too.

Looks like Beal and Butler won't be participating in the 3-point shootout.
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--w ... 28712.htmlButler was a long shot -- especially now that he's cooled off. I thought Beal might have had a chance, given his strong performance last year and his name recognition as an "up and coming star". But I suppose if a player drastically reduces his 3PTA, he can't expect to maintain a reputation as a 3-point shooter.

They're probably just saving Beal for the long-2-point shootout.

If were going the empty stats guy route then I'd pick Drummond ahead of Vucevic.
