Put all your gripes with the subpar Center here.
Can't score in the post.
Can't finish off the puck and roll.
Lazy defense.
Is sitting in the 4th quarter due to being soft.
Add on.

Guys, Gortat is almost exactly the same player he was last year. There is practically no difference in any of his numbers across the board, except he's playing 3 fewer minutes per game.

This is about a week and a half overdue, there should be an Amazingly Sucky Andre Miller thread next

Gotta sit him for a while. He's out of sorts. Let him come off the bench and get some time with the reserves. Simplify. One step at a time big guy

Nate,
You are 100% right. But, it just feels like, he can't put it together when watching the games.

Whenever you can give a 30 year old center who may have reached his peak a five year contract, you have to do it.

We can still move him, and probably should. There are a number of guys that can work as a stop gap with short contracts. Might have to include our first, but we're all in for a free agent strategy at this point anyway.

Code: Select all
RK NAME TEAM GP MPG ORPM DRPM RPM WAR
3 Gortat 2013-14 WSH 81 32.8 0.12 4.00 4.12 10.37
18 Gortat 2014-15 WSH 49 29.5 -1.55 1.97 0.42 2.46
ESPN's RPM notes a significant drop in terms of impact on both sides of the ball. This is matching what my eyes are seeing as well.

He started declining about a month ago, and it's gotten regressively worse. It's almost like someone has a voodoo doll of him and is sticking needles into it.

Fair point, Dat2U. I was referring to his box score numbers, but it does appear that his impact is worse.
That said, it's important to note that those on/off related numbers are extremely noisy with small sample sizes. Most of the stat geeks will tell you that the numbers can't be trusted until there's about a 2-year sample size. It may be that his numbers last year skewed a bit higher due to random noise, and this year they skew downward due to random noise.

I understand there would be some noise but his numbers have taken a huge dip on both sides of the ball and watching him play, you do see a guy struggling out there mightly, especially the last few weeks. I feel comfortable saying while the stats may be similar, the level of play & Gortat's overall impact has slipped since last year.
