So let's hope he's played his way out of a max deal and saves us some money. We need it so we can retool this frontcourt that's holding us back.

If only Ernie could have managed our $30M in cap space last summer better....

The Nets or some dumb team will offer him a max

Would be amazing if we got him for less than the max.

In the playoffs, with everyone watching, he averaged 11 and 7 with an ORtg of 127 (but he hit just 30% of his 3's).

Is that guy worth a max?

No, but you just put the bat signal out for PIF. He is about to respond re: how Otto is better than Wall.

Can Otto be made a 5 year contract offer?

Ernie is going to offer him a 5 year $100M on July 1.

That 20/10 in game 7 on the road was nice to see.

If we retain him I expect us to run a lot more offense through him. You don't give a player a max and then keep his usage low. I think he becomes the clear 3rd option and will be asked to create more.

I feel like you are saying that as if that would be a terrible deal. The worst he gets from another team is 4/80M, but more likely in the Parsons range of 4/90-95M.
5/100M puts his starting salary at just over 17M with max raises (Just over 18M with 4.5% raises), which gives us enough room to use most of the MLE.

Its not bad. But its Ernie... so you never know how much he'll overpay.

I'm also tired of people on twitter and on the local media talking about Otto should walk. He's 23 going on 24 and improving. He's become a good 3 point shooter, he's an OK defender, good rebounder... does a lot of little things and moves without the ball.

Obvously, the argument for us resigning Otto based on his worth has its own merits. However, I shudder at the thought of Ernie signing a replacement if we were to let him walk. Therefore, at worst, us resigning Otto is a must because it serves as a child-lock against EG making a dumb decision.

Bulls fan here. I'm sure this is a dumb question and I'll be laughed back to the Bulls board where I belong. But say we offer Otto the max - will you definitely match? I believe our max offer would be one year less than what you could offer, correct?

yea we'll match

reason is...we have nothing to gain from not maxing. We don't really get cap space worth anything back. We're still up against the cap. So it's basically letting him walk for nothing.

Even if Porter is complete trash for us after giving him the max there's at least a chance years down the road to trade his contract for value since he'll be getting closer to an expiring

Yeah I figured. He's 23 with a 18.0 PER and shot like 44% from behind the arc. The kid can play. Well, I'll go back to where I came from now. :D
