Tony DiLeo: Key To Wizards 2015 Draft Success?

I don't remember seeing much discussion about former Philadelphia 76ers scout Tony DiLeo when he was hired back in 2013, but I remember wondering if he was brought in by Ted Leonsis to take over scouting duties from Ernie Grunfeld when I read up on DiLeo's background. Perhaps Leonsis sees value in Grunfeld in certain areas, but like most fans just wasn't sold on his capacity to spot talent in the draft.

76ers fans seemed to think fairly highly about Tony Dileo's scouting abilities, something that can't be said about Grunfeld.

Maybe there's reason to be hopeful that this year's 1st round pick won't be squandered if the org. decides in fact to use it on a player falling just outside of this year's lottery.

What do you guys think?

i think as long as EG is the GM we have cause to expect disappointment on draft day. Even if the new guy is good it won't matter if EG doesn't listen to him.

I'll consider it a success if we just keep the pick.

Tony can do a superb job in scouting but it doesn't mean shid because when the Wiz are on the clock, Adam Silver will announce a trade and it'll be for a crappy veteran or the Wizards sold the pick for $5 million.

I am expecting our 1st round pick to be packaged with dumping Webster....for another vet.

The key? Ernie not making the pick.

The key? Ernie no longer involved in making roster decisions for the franchise. Wake me up when Ted's ego is no longer fixated on proving everyone wrong = that he can win with Grunfeld.

He fits in the ABE category - that's not short for Abe Pollin - it's anyone but Ernie.

True fact - DiLeo was the 76ers interim head coach for the 6ers in 2008 after the firing of Mo Cheeks. He's held fancy titles for very short periods of time.

Not sure if this qualifies as fact, but the timeline you present falls right into Billy Kings tenure as GM, quite easily the worst in the league.
