Media Day is Monday, September 28
Training Camp Practices start Tuesday, September 29
We knew Jared Dudley would be hurt going into camp, but it seems like Alan Anderson won't be healthy either

Who would have ever thought that these old, cheap, middling vets would have bodies that are starting to break down?

I'm so happy to see this thread. It has been a long offseason.

True -- it has seemed like a looooong off season.
With Dudley out for the first month or so of the season, and Anderson slow to come back from ankle problems, we could have an equally loooong first part of the season. OTOH, if Porter steps up as one hopes, if Beal *finally* establishes a high level of play, and Oubre can pick up quickly (and improve with his off hand), then maybe it'll be ok. Martell will get his chances again too -- hope he's recovered.

When an unnamed team source says a Wizard "may miss the start of training camp", it really means...

I'm told that Oubre is pretty raw. This has the ring of truth about it given that he is 19 yo.
I really wonder about Nene this year. It's a contract year. Can he stay healthy which he actually
did reasonably well last year. Still upset he let Horford steal that rebound essentially giving ATL the series.
He owes us.
If our top 4, Wall, Tat, Beal and Porter stay healthy, hopefully we will be modestly okay.

Good for him. That's step 1 -- although I'm annoyed that he felt it appropriate to carry around +30 lbs. last season.

that is a positive response. Take responsibility and try to fix it yourself.

And when a guy with knees that somehow don't have ACL's carries around that much extra weight, I'm not sure he automatically gains back the quickness and explosion he used to have and clearly didn't have last season.

If we get Spurs/Dallas Blair it could be a big upgrade over seraphin. I hope Randy doesn't needlessly bury him.
Porter said he worked on his and some strength some as well, doesn't look bigger though maybe cause it is core strength.
Wall puttin in work on the 3 and the post game... hope it manifests.
Damn its nice to have basketball back.

Blair's weight loss might generate some benefits. But for me, the *big* question is:
How much weight did Otto Porter gain?

Man, I hardly even recognize him.
This could be a pretty big deal. Dejuan Blair has always had the ability to be an elite rebounder. If he now has the foot speed to adequately play help defense, it will make a big difference.
This also confirms what I suspected last yer. Wittman didn't play him because he didn't have the work ethic to stay in good shape. I hope Blair has learned a lesson from this. Say what you will about Wittman, but he's developing a knack for knowing how to get players to play hard. His old school methods have really changed the trajectory of the franchise. I'm not sure if he is good enough with the X's and O's to be a truly top tier coach, but I think he's rock solid as a motivator.

Beal was just on NBA TV and he said (paraphrasing)
"I looked at my shot breakdown and realized I needed to cut down the long twos, and work on getting more to the FT line"
He is definitely aware of his efficiency issues and that's what he's been working on. If Brad comes in with a more complete game and even better defense, we won't regret giving him a max contract (and the team will look a lot more attractive once FA 2016 hits!)

I think you're giving Randy too much credit. Who other than CCJ would have played Blair in the condition he was in last season?

With Webster, Dudley, and Anderson - they have 3 6'7ish guys who may not be able to move - but they can shoot 3's all day long.

I don't mind Anderson & Dudley being out... I want Oubre to get all the opportunity he can handle early on. Hopefully he can play well and force his way into the team's plans this season.
Blair losing all that weight is an eye opener but I still worry about his ability to rotate & challenge shots defensively.
Martell losing weight is good too and it sounds like he's feeling better than he has in a while but my expectations for him are nil until he proves otherwise.
If Beal is serious about limiting the long 2 pt shots... we may see that breakout people have been waiting for ... and a better than expected record because of that.

Nice.

Webster is the smallest (and, at this point, possibly lightest) swingman we have. He's not especially long or physical, either. Since the back surgery, he lost muscle mass, and looked undersized at the 3 in limited minutes. I'm all for giving him a shot at earning PT if he's healthy, but would he get any minutes at the 4 over Porter, Dudley (when healthy), Anderson, or even Oubre?
