Zach Lowe: JVG a candidate for head coach?

Post#1 » by mhd » Tue Dec 29, 2015 12:09 am

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/14451352/the-suns-belief-competitive-building-future-taken-toll

"Hornacek is a good coach. If the Suns fire him, he will draw interest in what figures to be a frothy head-coaching market this summer. Brooklyn, Sacramento, Washington, Phoenix, Memphis, Houston, Minnesota, Portland, and the Lakers all could have open jobs, and the pool of candidates will be loaded with big names: Jeff Van Gundy (quietly a candidate for the Washington job), Scott Brooks, Thibodeau, Monty Williams, and potentially Dave Joerger, Mike D'Antoni, Hornacek, Luke Walton, and others"

JVG is "quietly" a candidate for the Washington job? Literally the first time i've heard anything of the sort.

Tomorrow would be nice. Randy has prolly done as much as he can at this point.

If a JVG hire means a an EG fire, then even better.

If JVG really is looking at Washington I would think he would probably want FO control like his brother which hopefully means buh bye Ernie!!!

Quietness accomplished! :D

My question about Van Gundy is whether or not he's still going to be stuck in the 1990's. Those epic, physical games between the Knicks and Heat are a thing of the past. Can he adapt? I was very interested in him as a replacement for EFJ years ago, but I'd probably put half the names on Lowe's list ahead of him at this point.

Okay, now back on planet earth...

Ted is LOYAL to a fault. The Wiz head coach and GM positions come with tenure.

Also back on planet earth, Grunfeld was the GM in New York when Van Gundy was the coach. They didn't get along. Like, not at all. The only way Van Gundy becomes coach of the Wizards is if Grunfeld is gone, and I don't see that happening any time soon.

First get a new GM. Also, I probably wouldn't give Van Gundy control of both the front office and the coaching department.

Interesting leak, does this mean that SVG has let Ernie/Ted know that he would be interested should there be a coaching vacancy? Or, is this EG floating a little mis-direction balloon to once-again set-up his coach to take the fall should we fail to make the playoffs? Will firing coach # 3 get EG off the hook?

Part of the enmity between Van Gundy and Grunfeld was a leak that if the Knicks lost an upcoming game, Van Gundy would be fired. Grunfeld denied the report, but Van Gundy flat didn't believe him. Van Gundy thought Grunfeld was the source of the leak. It was rendered moot because the Knicks won the game.

I blame it on Dwight Howard. Oops, wrong Van Gundy paranoia attack.

Interesting, I believe SVG :D EG should have a role on House of Cards, the guy is a master politician.

I'd allow JVG to have full powers *shrug*

Anything to get Ernie out of there

I'd rather have the other Van Gundy, but that ship has sailed. Thanks Ernie.

I'm not sure why Ernie would voluntarily fire himself and hire Stan Van Gundy as the coach/GM.
