Might be a little early to do the planning - but just guessing it isn't

If this should be in another thread (trade?) - moderators just move it

PG: Wall, ??, ??
SG: ??, ??, ??
SF: Porter, Oubre, ??
PF: Humphries, Gooden, ??
C: Gortat, Blair, ??
Equals a cap of $47,891,855 - Capologists, please expand

Seems like there will need to be decisions on:
Kevin Durant
Bradley Beal
Tomas Satoransky
Jared Dudley
Ramon Sessions
Garrett Temple
1st Round Pick
Feel free to expand
I would think the following would be gone:
Alan Anderson
Gary Neal
Ryan Hollins

Assuming Whiteside, Horford, Durant, pretty much every known quantity is a miss:
Bring in Vasquez on a bargain contract. Fits the mold pretty well for us--a guy who's shown good stuff in the past but had a bad stop somewhere. Bring him here to Washington and hopefully play really well again to drive his value back up.
Bring in Gasol at PF on a short deal with player option at a high cost to make it worth it to him to go year to year. I don't see him falling off too quickly--he just looks to comfortable out there right now. I think he could be a better version of Nene for us that actually plays most games. If we can't get a Durant caliber player then I'd rather be big than small. Could get us back into the top 10 defensively and I think Pau and Marcin could play well together. They both have the short jumper, can play PNR and PNP.
I'd pay Brad because I'm just trying to be realistic. Try to give him less than max but if he gets max then ok.
Bring back Dudley. Continued tryouts all year between Oubre, Porter, and Duds for the starting 3 spot.
Wall/Sato
Brad/Vasquez
Dudley/Oubre/Porter
Gasol/Porter/Dudley
Gortat/1st round pick
Not perfect, but a better team than we have now and it's a year to year thing. Probably a 45 win team minimum. Let Neal and Sessions walk. Trade Hump for someone.

ESPN Insider has an article about team goals (front office moves, trade deadline/offseason acquisitions, etc.)
http://espn.go.com/nba/insider/story/_/id/14457500/team-goals-cleveland-cavaliers-new-york-knicks-rest-eastern-conference-nbaI won't paste the entire article, obviously, but here's an interesting excerpt:
Washington Wizards
Goal No. 1: Commit to small ball
Goal No. 2: Find the next coach
Goal No. 3: Chase Durant but plan a Plan B
The writer's solution for 1) and 2) is to fire Wittman and hire D'Antoni (ugh). As for 3):
As a consolation prize in the Durant sweepstakes, the Wizards should be prepared to put on the full-court press for free agent Batum, who fits perfectly as a smaller Draymond Green/Boris Diaw do-it-all wing.
I like Batum, but the whole point of getting a Draymond/Boris type is that they have the size to the defend 4s (and even smaller 5s). Batum doesn't have that kind of size, so he's simply a versatile 3. Adding Batum wouldn't resolve our gaping hole at the 4 unless we made some other moves/trades.

He's probably a better defender than Porter or Dudley could be at that spot if we're commited to the 4.
I actually did think about Batum--but if the Spurs chase him its going to be tough to grab him. The Hornets are an instant max as well.
We'd have to basically max Batum and Beal, that's about 40 some million in cap space plus Walls 17 and Gortats 12. Then about 6 million for oubre and porters combined rookie wages. Puts us at around 80 million.
If we could add Batum and Gasol on the short term, I think we'd be very competitive. Wall/Beal/Batum/Gasol/Gortat would be very competitive defensively I think.
I don't think we get Batum though.

My plan:
1. Accept the fact the Durant is not coming here with EG as GM (he's well known around the league as one of the worst).
2. Accept the fact we're not going to the playoffs this year or, we go as eight seed and lose in the first round.
3. Replace EG with the best GM candidate we can find
4. Instruct new GM to shop Beal
5. Bring Santo over if possible
6. Resign Sessions
Edit - Replace RW after this season
Depth chart subject to change based on performance
Wall, Sessions, Santo
Santo, Oubre, Free Agent or Temple
Porter, Oubre, Free Agent,
Asset from Beal Trade (either first round pick or young developing big), Free Agent 3/4
Gortat, First Round Pick, Free Agent 4/5

i still think Durant should come here--brads issues go down dramatically with a scorer of Durants caliber here and if LeBron is declining then the Wizards should be favored with him and a couple of other moves to take the east

I say, trade for Cousins. The opportunity to get a big man of his talent who actually wants to be in DC, and is good friends with your star point guard, isn't going to come around very often.
I used to think we had a shot at KD but the way things have gone this year , I've about given up on that.
So I vote for, trade for Cousins, pair him with WAll, figure everything else out from there.

i mean OKC is probably going to get wtf swept or 4-1'd in the second round this year
is this year really that bad? lol--literally two of our main free agents came into the season injured. we've been injured all year and the record is just bad, not awful, not to mention the style change.
I honestly don't know what to think about Cousins anymore these days--its starting to get beyond the token "but his team sucks" response now. I mean they lost to the damned Sixers. Starting to think DMC is empty stats tbh.

I kind of like this plan... you could still go after KD but if it doesn't work - that would be plan B.
We would still have Humphries, Gooden and Blair. So, I think it changes your depth chart to:
Wall, Sessions
Santo, Oubre, Temple
Porter, Oubre, Free Agent,
Asset from Beal Trade (either first round pick or young developing big), Humphries, Gooden
Gortat, First Round Pick, Blair
or with Durant
Wall, Sessions
Santo, Temple
Porter, Oubre
Durant, Humphries, Gooden
Gortat, First Round Pick, Blair
+ 3 min contracts. If you could somehow bring back Dudley, great. If you could move either Humphries or Gooden, even better.

Assuming:
1) Durant's not coming
2) Beal's healthy
a) Nervous about it, but have to re-sign Beal
b) Re-sign Sessions and Dudley
c) Bring over Satoransky
d) I'd love to have Biyombo. Just what we need - rebounding and defense. He'll be due big money with the way he's been playing and Toronto hopefully can't afford him. Will have other suitors.
e) Backup plan to (d) is to bring back Seraphin. He can't be happy in NYC with so little playing time.
f) Sign Jon Leuer. High energy PF. Doesn't shoot a lot of 3's but has good %.
PG - Wall, Sessions
SG - Beal, Sato
SF - Porter, Oubre
PF - Dudley, Leuer, Humphries, Gooden
C- Gortat, Biyombo, Blair
Other - 1st round pick. Groom a PG like Melo Trimble to take over for Sessions. I think the best big men will be gone by the time we pick - especially any stretch 4 possibilities.
Other options:
a) Have to consider Ryan Anderson, but he'll be expensive with lots of of offers, and not sure he's worth it.
b) Pry a big man from Boston. Not David Lee. Probably couldn't get Olynek, but he'd be perfect.

Toronto signed him to a 2 year deal

Maybe I'm wrong, but I was basing my post on information from Basketball Insiders (.com)"
"7/18/15 — Signed Bismack Biyombo to a two-year, $5.8 million contract, player option on second season."
That's about 2.9 million per year, and if it's his option, he'll get a lot more than that on the open market. Maybe I'm interpreting "player option" wrong.

ESPN/Hoopshype also say that he has a player option. A Raptors fan pointed me towards the SBNation article. If I had to guess, I have to take it back and say that you were right.

I don't think we get Batum though.
The only way the Spurs can afford Batum is if they let Duncan and Diaw walk. I don't see the motivation. They're better off keeping those guys (and Ginobili) at dirt cheap prices and then reloading in 2017 when Duncan and Ginobili are sure to retire and there are more good free agents available.
I think Batum is an interesting idea. He has crazy length and could probably man the PF position about as well as Rudy Gay and Paul George do.
I would still prefer to address our PF position by trading Beal for Portis, but I admit that management is unlikely to do something as forward-thinking as that.

I like much of this. I absolutely would not go after Seraphin though. And I'd take a shot at Batum before settling for Dudley. Leuer and Biyombo are good ideas though. If we added them, I'd definitely let Hump and Blair go. I might keep Gooden on a vet minimum contract.
Also, I love Sessions but wouldn't chase him in a bidding process. If he wouldn't agree to something south of 2 years $10M, I'd probably let him walk and look elsewhere.

I thought we're stuck with Humphries, Gooden, and Blair next year, but I guess don't understand their contracts. Gooden and Blair are 14/15th man types, so not that important. Jury's still out on Humphries. Next few months will tell.
I forgot Temple. He'll probably be back, and why not? A great team player, valuable at times, and not expensive.
With Biyombo, he seems to love being in Toronto, but with needing to give Derozan a max contract, not sure if they can keep him.

Why do you like this?
This is essentially our team now, and not a playoff team.
We blew our phukkin load on Durant. How embarrassing it will be when he doesn't sign here.
We're like that delusional kid at the bar, convinced he deserves the 10/10 supermodel, so he turns down all the free pussy 7/10 and 8/10s are throwing at him all night. Only to discover at last call that the 10/10 is going home with someone else. And now we have to go home and masturbate alone, sobbing. Aka the Monte. Embarrassing.
