Wizards on Team USA thread

I found a few separate threads re: to Wall and Beal's tenure in the Team USA system[1], but not a single consolidated thread.
[1] e.g.,
viewtopic.php?t=1339691viewtopic.php?t=1299298&start=15Anyway, Wall and Beal were both named finalists to the 2016 Olympic team.
http://wizardstoday.monumentalnetwork.com/2016/01/18/wall-and-beal-announced-as-finalists-for-2016-us-olympic-mens-teamThe odds of Wall making the team are still low, seeing as Curry, Kyrie, Westbrook, Paul, and Conley are also finalists. Beal faces competition from DeRozan, Harden, Butler, and Thompson (putting aside swingmen like Iguodala and George).

Barring injuries to others, I would be surprised if either made the 2016 team.

Wall just doesn't fit the international game. Not a good enough shooter.

completely disagree
shooting becomes too overrated in these games--USA thrives with heavy ball pressure and fast breaks--Wall is better at that than every guard on the roster
The problem with bringing Curry, Paul, and Irving is that those guys are all redundant in regards to what they bring. Bring two of those guys, then bring Wall and Westbrook as energy guys off the bench.
Wall/Kawhi/George/LeBron/Davis
like...teams will struggle to even get to half court with that lineup

If some rumors are to be believed, if Wall were to sign with Nike, he might magically become a "better fit" for the international game than he was as an Adidas endorser.

Not being able to shoot the three with any consistency automatically disqualified him Krzyzewski's team. Maybe he's got a better chance under Popovich, I'd love to see him get that sort of exposure.

Beal turned down an invite to play in Brazil.

Beal is single; I don't think he's particularly concerned about zika. But I get it: he's frail, and is about to sign a contract that will overpay him for 4-5 years. Given his injury history, there's no guarantee that he's going to get another big contract after this one. So, while I'd like to see him observe the work ethic of the other stars on the squad, I'm fine w/ him sitting this one out.

Yeah I wish Beal and Wall would play but Wall isn't perceived to be a great fit (though I think he'd prove them wrong) and Beal doesn't want to risk it. I think they'd both benefit from it but Wall apparently isn't getting the offer and I understand where Beal is coming from.

To be fair, Wall *might* have gotten an offer this year as well, seeing as most of the PGs ahead of him aren't going. Of course, Wall is recovering from knee surgery, and won't be healthy in time to participate.
The surgery is rotten timing, in that sense. This was probably Wall's best chance to represent the country.
