Young has two years, $25M remaining and a third year player option at $13.8M. He's 28, a ten (!) year vet, and has played 20,000 minutes. He seems to be roughly as production -- maybe slightly more so -- than Morris, but is markedly more expensive. Who would you rather have?

I'd rather have Morris, dude has been instrumental in importing high quality, low priced ganja into the DMV market

Both are weak rebounders for their position, and both are too weak 3 point shooters to serve as reliable stretch forwards. Morris maybe better at both, and more assists, also more PFs and TOs. Maybe Young is overall more productive and, barring injury or differing declines (they're only about 16 months apart in age), he might stay that way, but thus far their most productive years are well in the past.
Morris seemed to be able to guard some centers, don't know how well Young does that. With the salary difference, that probably tips in Morris' favor. Enough to justify the difference between the 13th pick and the 20th pick? Don't know, but where was Young when the Wizards needed a jolt?

Morris because of age, salary, and more of a 3 pt threat.

How about Neither? I'd be perfectly content with just having the draft pick.
Who knows, as much as the Wizards believe that it's luck that separates them from the haves, they might have actually gotten lucky for once.

What is the point of this thread?
A player who is among the more productive at his position and cost is a useful asset -- either to keep or to trade. A player who is below average productivity at his position and cost is a drag on your roster and harder to trade.
Markieff Morris and Thaddeus Young are both players of the 2d kind. Young is much more expensive than Morris, but he has been much more productive in his career. That said, his best years are pretty clearly behind him yet he's signed through June 2019. I doubt he'll produce enough to help Indiana "win now," so I didn't like the acquisition for them.
Overall, I wouldn't want either of these players at their salaries. The opposite.
In our case, it won't be long before we recognize that Morris is a drag sail and that we're stuck with him. Ernie will find some reason to claim that it wasn't his fault, it was bad luck, etc.

Fishercob appears to be revisiting EG's decision to trade a pick for Morris and comparing it to other options that were presumably available based on trades that took place this offseason. I think it's an interesting thought experiment.
So far, when comparing Morris trade to either the Hill trade of the Young trade, it appears that the Morris trade seems pretty fair valuewise. Obviously, it's much more difficult to compare Morris to the value of the #13 pick since we won't know for years how this draft will turn out.
