Returning Free Agent Wizards?

This set of questions was posted on the off-season thread, and PIF suggested that I make it its own separate discussion. That's a rare enough suggestion around these parts that I'm taking him up on it:
We only have 5 players under contract (6 if we resign Beal). I assume that not all of our 9 or 10 additional signed players will be new faces. Who among the Wizards from last season, not currently under contract, would folks consider possibilities to return? Or who would you ideally like to have return?
Ramon Sessions if he doesn't get the deal he wants from someone else?
Nene on a much, much cheaper contract?
J.J. Hickson for 12th-man forward depth with a nasty streak?
I've seen some folks mention in passing the possibility of Garrett Temple being resigned.
You get the idea. Discuss.

I think Sessions played really well last year and would like him back. But I would think he is going to get a payday. I would think we shouldn't look at Saty as a backup PG but rather a point SG. So, I would like to see a defensive minded PG (if there is such a thing

). Seems like there is an abundance of free agent backup PGs and Sessions is going to be 31 - guessing he won't get too much faster.

Still trying to wrap my head around the new pay scales, so I don't know what a "much cheaper contract" for a backup C looks like, but Nene on a two year contract as first big off the bench seems like a good move, as long as they take into account he may miss up to 30 games.
I like Sessions, but agree with dckingsfan that he'll probably price himself out of the Wizards.
If the price is right, fine with Temple as 5th guard, Alan Anderson as backup wing, and Hickson (he came through on some late season wins) as big rotation depth.

Sessions was ok as for pushing the pace and getting to the rim, but at some point, we need more a facilitator for the second unit. He creates for himself.

As with all free agency questions this offseason, the answer is: "It depends on the price".
I'm sure the team has some interest in retaining Nene, Temple, Sessions and perhaps Anderson, but all of those guys are secondary decisions that will take place after they've made a decision on Sato and whatever big name free agent they go after.

I have no desire to bring Nene back for anything other than a super cheap contract. Yeah, he may go sign with the Warriors or Cavs and win a title, but I don't care. I'd rather split backup center between -- in order -- Morris, a cheap vet like Miles Plumlee, and a developmental young guy like Jaleel Watkins.

I like Nene's passing, defense, and toughness on the 2nd unit, but it would greatly depend on price for me too. None the team's FAs are must haves.

Those are nice things. I don't like his proneness to injury, his attitude and persecution complex, and he's nearly 34.

I'd consider bringing Dudley back if preferences at backup PF fall through. I'd like Temple back as continued Beal insurance. I'd like Anderson back on the cheap as Oubre insurance.
I'd have little to no interest in anyone else. I think it's time we move on from Nene, Sessions & Gooden. Hickson & Thornton may be considered if they take the minimum and we still have needs at those respective positions. I'm still not quite sure why Eddie would still be around. He's simply not an NBA caliber player and he's not all that young.

I think you're right that Hickson and Thornton will be back for the right price if there are spots open. Eddie has one skill but I can see Anderson back for a one-year deal because he owes us one and he's a vocal leader off the bench. I don't think there's a chance Dudley returns because he probably felt misused after the Morris trade. Temple would be fine but wonder if there is any interest in him elsewhere.

That would make more sense with Sato as the playmaker and I guess he would be cheaper than Seth Curry, who might command too much $$$. Personally, I'd rather have an Afflalo/Courtney Lee as my backup if we aren't going to get a max FA and can afford one of those guys. But if Sato comes over, is he ready to be the backup 2 and we just spend a little on a backup 1?

Aww, come on! You want the Wizards to part with the life of the party? Nene's a ball.

I didn't say anything about parting with AFM.

Forgot about Hickson.
Yes, ideally we retain guys like Hickson, Temple and Anderson for vet minimum contracts after first using our cap dollars on better free agents. We'd be in decent shape if that trio constituted our 10th, 11th and 12th best players.

I'll be honest - I've lost interest. They've gotten themselves in this do-nothing until it's panic time culture where they're finally recognized as clowns throughout the league. If they make some moves that actually mean that they give a damn, I'll start paying attention again, but I ain't holding my breath.

Thanks for starting this, dorianwrite.
Yes to Dudley -- but I don't want his return as back up 4. Before playing w/ the Wiz he was never an NBA 4, and he isn't capable of playing in that spot. Over his career he has strictly been a wing, where he can be very productive. In fact -- because everyone seems to have raw recruit Oubre pencilled in as the main backup at the 3, which I consider to be a very optimistic notion -- I'd want him as our 2d unit player at that spot.
I want Hickson back, especially at low cost. He has played almost as much 4 as 5 in the league, and he has had some very productive seasons and is only 27. He'll certainly come cheap and will be a terrific bargain.
Temple as well -- he's a useful player and not terrible.
As to Sessions, it all depends on cost. He may not have pushed up his value as much as we are imagining. We'll see. He has been a lot better than any obvious cheap alternatives I can think of right now.
That's it. No Nene, Neal, Anderson, Thornton, Gooden or Eddie for me.

I'd be willing to bring back Temple and Anderson. As much as i would like Sesh back, he's going to go more money else where, 76ers maybe. If we got Horford, then Nene and Hickson would have to come back super cheap

Don't know why we'd bring back Dudley. Between Durant and Morris we have enough talent at the 4.
