Restricted free-agent guard Bradley Beal agreed to a five-year, $128 million maximum contract to stay with the Washington Wizards, his agent, Mark Bartelstein, told The Vertical.

It is not really a surprise given what other contracts were handed out.

No reason to give him a 5 yr deal. None at all. But in this market, with teams begging to give Kent Bazemore nearly $20 million, Beal won't be the worst deal out there.

I want to throw up. Not mad at Beal. Not my money but damn does this lock us into treadmill.

Guys like Whiteside and Batum are reportedly taking/willing to sign for less then max (by a bit)... would have been nice had Beal had some empathy for the fans for the fact our GM has a trisomy. Sigh...

At least we didn't give Beal the full $130M that Detroit gave Drummond, amirite? That extra $2M will make all of the difference.

Thrilled we locked up our average and often injured shooting guard for double what Steph Curry makes. This is how great front offices operate. Visionaries plying their trade

Drummond is a borderline superstar and an elite rebounder. What is Beal elite at?

Agree that the deal will probably look better as the offseason progresses. And I'm figuring they wanted to be able to use Beal in recruiting whomever their other targets are/were, so they did whatever it took to get it wrapped up ASAP rather than wait and match a 4-year offer a few days from now.

Beal got more years (five), than times he's scored 30 or more in his career (four).

This will end up being worse than Gilberts second contract.

Well, 10 years from now, Wall and Beal will be one of the best young backcourts in the NBA.

Don't scoff, that $2 million can be used to buy one of the second round picks that we'll include in our offer to other teams to entice them to take Beal's contract off our hands in three years.

Words can't describe how terrible this contract is. Seriously, Beal really isn't any more effective than Garrett Temple, only he is much more injury prone. This contract just obliterated any possibility of signing a superstar free agent in the next 3 years. And Wall is too good to permit tanking for anything lower than the 10th pick or so.

Our only path to success is through a series of shrewd, mid-tier free agent signings and good draft picks, a la Portland or Indiana. Unfortunately, with EG at the helm, the chances of that happening are zero. Basically, we just guaranteed that we will win no more than 45 games anytime in the next 4-5 years. There is absolutely no hope on the horizon.

I'm sure you all have discussed this before, but I don't understand why the Wiz did not just let another team set the market for Beal and simply match soon thereafter. Why just jump to the almost max right away?

If Grunfeld had a stones as a negotiator, he could have and should have gotten the organization a better deal. Agents know how to take advantage of Ernie.

On no level will this look better at any moment in time. Beal is an average player making more than Steph Curry.

I mean, I know you're a lover of all things Grunfeld, but you have to admit it...this deal stinks. Beal is nowhere near worth the max. He should have received what Jordan Clarkson got.

I'm going to repeat, Beal scored 28 or more points exactly once last season. His best skill is 3-point shooting, where he ranked 31st in the league in total 3-pointers made, and 25th in 3P% (among guys with 100 or more attempts).

That's our superstar, max-contract shooting guard.

Curry will make more than Beal.......... next year :banghead:

This contract is terrible. He should have gotten a max of 5 years $70M.

Well at least were not paying north of $18 million per combined for Jodie Meeks, D.J. Augustin & C.J. Watson.

Hey, I'm trying to look at the positives.

We should have taken that 22nd pick with Jeremy Lamb from Charlotte and played hardball with Beal in free agency.

But in looking at how things are progressing, I'm almost certain Beal would have gotten a max offer from some team. I still don't understand just giving away the farm on day one with a 5 yr max - that 5th year just pisses me off. It's so unnecessary. But it's also so Ernie.

Apparently Ted is willing to spend hundreds of million dollars to prove everyone wrong and show that a trained monkey can execute his flawless plan. I'm beginning to realize he and Ernie deserve each other. His uncompromising desire to be the smartest jerkoff in the room makes me hope this will all blow up in his face much sooner than later. The sad thing is he's probably too obtuse to realize when that actually happens.
