He didn't have a good year, but at $3.4 mil, you're not gonna find a backup point guard for that price.

As I said in the GB, I would've preferred a sweet-shooting PG to pair with Sato. but Burke (34.4% 3FG) isn't a stiff from outside.

He's got talent. Didn't quite put it together in Utah, but maybe Brooks can coach him up. Burke's a better return on a 2nd round pick than, say, cash.

Yeah-right? he is basically a lottery pick bust or a guy who never really got a fair shot. I hope it's the later.

Double-bonus, Ernie doesn't have to deal with those pesky draft picks.

This is all you need to read. Double irony, Mack's option will probably be picked-up now.

Another 2nd rounder gone.

This is an awful move....again. Burke is terrible. People saying he never got a fair shot...wtf? The Jazz have been lacking a PG for years and they drafted him with a top 10 pick. He got a shot and was bad. And he's so bad now that he can't even stay on the court despite having Favors and Gobert behind him to protect the rim.

There were some fun PG options that could have been bought for cash in this draft. Pointless trade and again devalues the draft.

Burke has played 6000 minutes in 3 years. He has had plenty of opportunity and has been absolutely awful.

I never imagined that Ernie could get even worse than he has been for years now. But, yes, he is showing that he can. Why ever would you give anything at all for Burke? I don't get it. Why not offer that deal to Sacramento for Seth Curry, for example?

Better Jarrett Jack for a year than Trey Burke (not that I'm suggesting signing Jack).

Anyone remember who Utah's starting PG is? Yeah that's right, it's Shelvin Mack. Aarrrggggghhhh!!

The fact that we aren't even going after a guy like Curry but gave up a pick for Burke is just insanity to me

I'll give it time; he could be Eric Maynor 2.0 or it could work out like the Ramon Sessions trade which wasn't viewed too favorably at the time (viewtopic.php?t=1373522). Personally, I would have passed because even if Burke pans out, he is still a free agent in 2017. But I think he could still turn into a solid piece.

I thought Burke was quicker. But a friend just reminded me that he's not as quick as he needs to be, given his lack of size (he's generously listed at 6'1"). It's gonna be tough for him to overcome that. :-?

Ok look. Burke is young, the kid is 23, it's at to early to call him a bust ! He is not a terrible passer and he has decent athleticism. Not a bad 3 point shooter. And honestly the way people are getting paid this is a really solid move considering you are not getting a solid back up for less than him right now I don't think. A second round pick in 2021 is a really solid price to pay for a guy like burke. I'm not defending EG and the fact that he blew the KD and A.Horford plans. But, this is a decent move for a young back up point guard with potential.

Yeah, I really liked him at Michigan, and I have no idea why he's pretty much failed in the NBA. He did better last season playing off the ball - which seems strange. Seems to me, the talent is there, but he hasn't figured things out by a long shot. For a 2021 2nd rounder, I think he's worth a look. John Wall can take him under his wing.

You saw what Brooks did with Reggie jackson! And about him being a free agent maybe we extend him on a cheaper deal.

The thing that always confused me about Burke is that he is such a mediocre 3-point shooter in the NBA despite being deadly from 3-point range in college. He's a good enough FT shooter so it's unlikely that there's a problem with his mechanics. I guess the speed of the NBA game really throws him off.

The best case scenario is he has a J.J. Redick type of career path. Redick was an elite college scorer but was almost unplayable in his first few years as a pro. He just couldn't adjust to the speed of the game. But with lots of hard work on his body, he eventually became a damn good player.

I'm not predicting Burke will do that. I'm just saying there is a precedent.

The real disappointment in this trade is that we gave up a 2nd round pick for a 1-year rental. If he had 2 years left on the deal, it would be a pretty good trade. But with only 1 year, it seems like a waste to me. I guess the logic is that a PG with 6000 minutes under his belt will require less on-the-job training. Again, that's the type of logic you use if you're a 48-win team trying to become a contender. We are not in that position. We shouldn't be making the safe, low-risk, low-reward move. I'd rather just try and find the next Ish Smith out of the D-League.

Rolling the dice on Trey is not a bad thing. Trey has improved his shot selection year over year, and that has reflected in the better percentages. He seems to have been a beter 3pt shooter in college than in the pros.

What bugs me is that he is actually progressively worse year over year as a PG, meaning his assists are going in the wrong direction. Would like to hear from someone who has seen him play....does he not see the court very well? Is he too small/slight to play the position effectively?
Taking a flyer on him, given the cost for the one year rental, is acceptable. He may still pan out. One more body for the bench.

As a Jazz fan, I'll spare you guys my honest opinion, and only say that I am happy with the trade. Good luck to your team and to Trey.
