"I think a lot of times we (John and Brad) have a tendency to dislike each other on the court."

Post#1 » by Dark Faze » Tue Aug 23, 2016 8:12 pm

Thought this deserved its own thread. It's been clear they aren't best buds, but this is the first there's been conversation of contempt from a basketball standpoint.

Via Wall

"I think a lot of times we have a tendency to dislike each other on the court. … We got to be able to put that to the side. If you miss somebody on one play or don’t have something go right … as long as you come to each other and talk. If I starting arguing with somebody I’m cool. I’m just playing basketball,” Wall said in a sitdown interview with CSN’s Chris Miller that airs tonight, Wizards Central: Offseason Grind, at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Via Beal

"It’s tough because we’re both alphas. It’s always tough when you have two guys who firmly believe in themselves, who will bet on themselves against anybody else, who want to be that guy. We both can be that guy,” Beal said.

"Sometimes I think we both lose sight of the fact that we need each other. I wouldn’t be in the situation I’m in without John. John wouldn’t be in the situation he’s in without me, without the rest of the team. It goes hand-in-hand so it’s kind of a pride thing. We got to (hash) out our pride, figure out what our goals are individually, help each other achieve those goals, figure out what our team goal is, where do we see ourselves five years from now, 10 years from now and go from there.”

Wasn't this known for a while already?

Also, "John wouldn’t be in the situation he’s in without me"... John been in 'the situation' (whatever that is) for about 50% of every season since Beal got drafted.

I couldn't believe Beal said that stuff, for the most part Wall has been carrying the team cause Beal is out extended time with multiple injuries.

Beal better play to at least 60% of that max contract cause I know he'll end up on the shelf at some point.

The more and more I read into stuff like this the more I think Wall bolts in 2018 to be Alpha dog elsewhere

They messed up by giving Beal the max.

He misses 20 games each season. He is not nearly as good as he thinks. Misses too many midrange shots. Misses too many free throws. Doesn't attempt enough free throws. Doesn't create very well off the dribble.

Dude is greatly overrated.

Yeah... he should be thanking his lucky stars we didn't acquire Greivis Vasquez this off-season -- put his 30 million dollar butt on the bench!

"We like our core" -- Ted Leonsis. Bet he loved reading that article, huh?

There were just a couple of egregious misstatements in that article, btw --

1. that John and Brad are the team's two best players. Brad isn't even among the team's top 5 players, for one thing. And I'd say Gortat, and now Porter as well, are better than John Wall (who is certainly a very good player, don't get me wrong).

2. that we were a John Wall injury away from the EC Finals 2 years ago. BS: both teams had injuries -- we lost in 6, and if Millsap hadn't been dinged up we'd more likely have lost in 5. As well, the Raptors had more injuries when they played us than either the Wizards or the Hawks when they played against each other.

By what metric are Gortat and Porter better than Wall? I'm genuinely curious. I'm not up on advanced statistics so I would really like to hear your perspective and whether/how advanced stats play into your suggestion. On it's face I find it a pretty surprising statement.

John Wall is by far our best player. I can't believe that anyone would say that Gortat or Porter are in JW's league. He makes people better. He would be a starter on most elite finals teams.

I really hope Beal backs up his talk. No one debated if JW should get the max....beal no one believes he is a max player. I hope he plays out his mind next year....but let's be clear JW Is #1 and BB is one of 2-5.

I didn't have any idea about this. Isn't this kind of a big deal?

Can someone shed some light on this?

Yep. Perhaps not all the team though. It would be interesting to see what we could get for Wall or Beal in a trade. I want them both gone and if we have to tank again then so be it.

My respect level for Beal just dropped sharply after reading that. You wanna be an alpha, you play like an alpha. I thought he was a mature guy but I think he has growing up to do.

Perhaps a new coach and a new system will have these guys playing together like they should be and loving it. Otherwise, im becoming less and less against trading Beal.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Smart move gets the media attention...I think brooks had a hand in this...kd and westbrook used to comment on each other a lot...whether positive or negative it gives the team some much needed buzz...
I think we'll see them become really buddy buddy towards mid season and that means more headlines referring back to this
Pay your beals....or its lights out!!!
Bron, Bosh, Wade is like Mike, Hakeem, barkley...3 top 5 picks from same draft
mike, hakeem and Barkley on the same team!!!!

Gary Neal was more valuable to Wizards last season then Beal was.

Right now Beal hasn't even outplayed what Nick Young did for us.

I'm sick of hearing how good he and Wall can be.

They need to produce W's or STFU.
