By Wiz board tradition, same poster should only make consecutive game threads when the team wins, but no one was jumping to it, so here you go. FAH1223, dlts20, AFM, and many others make better game threads anyway, so hopefully you all will be jumping in when the season starts.

Compare and contrast this game with last week's game in Philly. Formulate a trade that loses Beal and gets a young big, LMA, etc. Or, just watch the game. This is America!

Go Wiz!

Nice to see Nicholson hit a few 3s. I also figure Burke is good for a game like this once or twice a month.

A preseason home game against the Sixers...unfortunately, my grandma needed someone to help her put markers on her bingo card tonight, so I couldn't catch this one.

If only Beal could play like this every other game except for once every month

Nicholson is my guy to watch. He is slow footed and not very big/strong, but he is long, very skilled, and can shoot.

Quicker 4's will blow by him, but he can take them down low and put on a clinic. Also, I think he carves out a few minutes at the stretch 5 where he'll hit about 1/3rd of his 3's and pull Centers away from the paint for Wall, Beal, and Oubre.

I was at this game, somehow....

Don't get the Burke hate. I think most people wrote him off before he played his first minute here. Call it Grunfeld Battered Syndrome. But honestly, he looks pretty good. He's got really good control of the ball, has a bevy of headfakes, hesitation moves, can finish off balance--I mean, maybe it's just because it was the sixers, but he looked excellent. Maybe EG found himself another steal? I'll remind the board of our consensus opinion of both the Webster trade and the Sessions trade. I'm gonna remain optimistic.

Did you guys miss the memo? No favorable comments about Burke and Nicholson are permitted!

Burke has been awful the first few games, but he played well with the second unit last night.

Considering who the opponent was though, much like Nicholson's Rodmanesque rebounding performance in the first half I'd take his performance with a grain of salt.

The big revelation last night to me was John Wall. Not that he played all that well, but he looks like a different guy out there the way he runs the floor on both ends. Definitely looks like he's got his wheels back.

Burke looked aggressive, active, and he is a good shooter. You can see why he was so effective in college. And why that effectiveness might not have translated very well.

You'd really like him to be like Patty Mills, and in some ways he his. Neither of them turn the ball over much, fouls much, or gets many assists for a PG, but Mills is a little better than Burke at all those things.

Neither of them steals the ball often or rebounds well, but again Mills' numbers are a little better than Burke's on all those things.

Neither of them gets to the line much, but in this case Burke gets there a bit more and is a better FT shooter too. But the attempts are so few that the benefit to his numbers is trivial.

Mills shoots a slightly better 2pt % -- but he shoots a significantly better 3pt%. And both guys take a lot of 3 point shots.

A bunch of small differences and one big difference -- with the overall result that Mills has been a terrific player off the bench, and Burke has been one of the worst PGs in the league.

The good news is that Burke's 3pt % actually went up last year. So did his 2pt %. To me at least, the only way this kid can ever be even a reasonable producer, any kind of help, is if that continues -- he already shoots a lot (6th most 3pt attempts/40 minutes last year among PGs who played 20 minutes a game or more; 15th in overall FGAs). He has to shoot a lot better to be of any help.

Burke played better than he normally does in this game. I don't expect much of anything good
from him this year but would love to be surprised in a good way.

I really like what I see from KO. My Ernie hate still has me thinking 40 wins this year is
probably not far off but I can envision (tell me if or how delusional I am) an interesting
lineup with Mahinmi (or Gortat) playing with some combination of our wing guys
OP, KO, Sato and Beal and Wall.

Gotta defend and rebound. I like what I see about how KO defends.

Hey, tickets were $20 on stubhub, and came with a $20 food voucher each... Also we moved down to 4 rows up from courtside at halftime.

face value?

You paid $20? I'm surprised you couldn't do better. There was basically no one there.

I don't know if it's my new slightly different seat location but the PA
was obnoxiously/painfully loud last night playing songs during timeouts.
I need to start bringing earplugs.

Unlike others, I try and treat each situation differently and I don\t care about who picked them or traded for them. But after saying that, I just don't like the way Burke plays. He's similar to Sessions in that he's a shoot-first point guard, without the size or speed. I want my point guards to create for others as well as themselves. To me, he's more interested in scoring than playing the position. You can do that at Michigan but at this level, when you're 6-feet tall, how about getting the ball inside or getting the ball to your wings? I've watched every preseason game by the way, even last night, after DVRing it.

KO has a ways to go but he's nothing if not aggressive and has some athletic arrogance. He's fearless, which I love, but I don't think he's the athlete he thinks he is. Not at this level, though he's certainly more athletic than Otto. Though it was interesting late in the game when they played Sato at the 3. Know he can't defend the big 3s but in some matchups, I can see that. Of course, Thornton is pretty much a bum if he can't make shots so not really sure if Sato is a backup 1, 2, or 3.

Agreed, but I STILL love his fearlessness, 80s.

Kinda like a Reggie Miller-type, take-no-stuff mindset. KO is way more athletic than Reggie was. Oubre needs to just keep refining his game.
