How long should Ernie Grunfeld's next extension be?

Folks,

As we all know, Ernie Grunfeld's contract will be up soon. Obviously we aren't going to do anything crazy like fire him, so I think it's better to start planning for the future.

I didn't include the option of a one year contract extension in the poll because I don't think it would be fair to him - he needs more time to establish himself and build continuity.

While I don't want to totally influence everyone's vote, it's worth noting that giving Grunfeld tenure would be a great victory for continuity and execution of Plans (with a capital P).

I predict if the Wizards finish 9-11, that will be enough to get Ernie another 2 years.

Is lifetime tenure long enough? It should probably extend to his descendants.

Doesn't he have a son named Dan that played for Stanford?

You mean finish off what he started on 9-11?

Ernie getting extensions? I think hair plugs would be more suitable. Maybe he can use some of the hair from his stache to plug those balding spots.

Continuity is obviously the key. All the winning teams have had a stable front office. So logically, it follows that if our front office is stable, we will win.

Oh, you said, "winning teams have had a stable front office." Terd thought you said, "winning teams have had a stable in the front office." What's he going to do with all that horse manure?

I remember last spring when some of us thought there was some possibility of EG being fired/replaced. There was speculation on the length of his contract, and some effort on the part of the local media to find out. See this BF piece from April that pulls some of this together and relies on anonymous sources to confirm that EG was under contract for 2016-2017.

But it has been a number of years since there has been any confirmation from the team/Ted about EG's contract status. We have no idea whether EG's contract runs year to year, whether this is the last year, or whether the Wizards are committed to EG through 2020 or 2025. We just don't know.

Edited: was going to say "GM for Life" should be one of the choices but I see that it is.

more seriously, the fans are speaking with their feet. Attendance is surely down
and concessions can't be nearly what they would have hoped for either. At some
point, change will come. Obviously long after it was due...

Wouldn't it be fitting if the joke was on us and EG already signed his extention in secret, because somewhere deep down Ted knows it's wrong.

Empty seats for you Ted.

Keep in mind that it's not locked in for Ernie to be available to us. Some other team, looking at his incredible work, might hire him away. Then we'd be stuck.

Is Billy King still around somewhere?
