2017 buyout FA targets

This doesn't feel like an offseason FA thread; nor is it a fit for the trade thread.
Deron Williams looks like he'll become available.
(mods: feel free to merge elsewhere)

Well, too bad Williams is guaranteed heading to the Cavs.

Good question. Can we leverage that TPE we picked up in the Bojan deal?

Deron can easily get 25+ minutes here backing up Wall and Beal. It is a longshot though the Cavs are the most obvious destination.

Is Deron really the guy we want?? I haven't heard much about him being a veteran locker room presence the way Pierce was. He just seems like a dispassionate guy. Rather snag a hungry young player than a lazy veteran.

Just checked BBall Insiders...we have the room exception at $2.8 million

This team doesn't need a locker room presence, if there's one thing this season has proven is that the Wizards have a group that can sort out their differences and put in work despite outside distractions and appearances.
What this team needs is more talent after the starting five.
I think Williams could be a decent fit, playing on and off the ball, but he strikes me like the type of guy that would rather make a run at the title with the Cavs than to take a chance with an up and comer like Washington.

Rajon Rondo might get cut after the Bulls made a trade for PG Cameron Payne.

Rondo would lose a free throw contest with Mahinmi but he can dribble the ball past half court and pass the ball to Bogdanovic and Oubre. And he defends better than DWill.
Would look dumb if Budenholzer or some other coach decided to hack him in the POs tho, Sato can hit his FTs at least.

We have the Room exception that a lot of other teams don't have left. We can offer someone 2.9 ish million for the rest of the season and a player option for next year at the same rate. or min contracts. Boston and indiana have cap room to sign people, but they are not in the market for guards so we are safe there. We have that money edge over the cavs and considering we are close to contending with them, we might have a shot at one of the top 3 buy out guards on the market.
Williams or rondo would be fine by me! Rondos attitude might subside one a team who wants him and values him and that he chose to come to to be a back up. Williams is over the hill and is not much better than burke on offence now a days but he is still a much better defender than burke ever was or will be. COllisson or Evans might get a buy out from the kings and I would be all over them Evans is not a pure PG but he is a decent ball handler and next to tomas that might be interesting and he would make up or bogdanavics lack of D. Donald sloan and Jimmer are palying great ball in china so they are options. I was to see Chris McCullough given a chance to play this year but I can live with signing jones to a ten day but he probably goes to torronto, Jazz, GS, boston, Indiana, or another team out est needing PF help. I would cut burke and thornton and sign williams or Rondo in a heart beat and pick up an extra emergency big like jones or some one like that.

Ernie wants to add leftovers as our backup PG. Sato is not a right guy deal with it!

he got waived so a team under the cap can claim him off waivers I believe, Jazz might take that and run with it cuz they were looking at trading for him. a team like boston might grab him just to keep him off the cavs. The waiver wire is a whole different ball game over buyouts, because if I have it right, you can go anywhere you want after a buy out but you have to clear waivers if you are waived or cut correct?

Denver should pick him up. They need a backup PG (Mudiay has been horrible).

It looks like he joins the Cavs

Raps seemed to be the deepest team in the east after tradingPJ Tucker and we still don't have backup for Wall...

I disagree it's just smart to add a cet PG when that's your thin spot. The fact that we tried to move burke, means that we did not want to give him away but we were comfortable enough with Tomas being back up PG that we are willing to move him. Because if we could not move him we can just cut him and not have to deal with the trade paper work. I would have called denver and see if they would have done Burke for the rights to one of Petr Cornelie/Izzet Türkyılmaz/Nikola Radičević.
But I think EG was at least trying to move burke means good news for Tomas going forward.
