The Undrafted Amigos!

Given that we can't follow the progress of a highly-touted rookie (or any drafted rookie at all!) this Summer, I'm all in on quantity.

The Undrafted Amigos are:

Devin Robinson
Michael Young
Marcus Keene
Isaac Humphries

This thread may not last long, or it may turn out the Amigos are all fantastico!! For now, at least, lets hope they play a lot in SL & we get to enthuse about every last one of them.

PIF, you just posted 4/5th of our starting lineup for game one of the 2019 EFC.

We're the only fan base in the NBA who talks themselves into undrafted players like they will ever amount to anything (becoming rotation players). Even Brooklyn doesn't do this. Guess that's what's happens when you don't even have 2nd round picks!

At what point should it stop? Should I start watching videos of DIII players with size and length, and go, he's got all the tools to be Beal's backup! I'm all in!

No to your last question, but one thing you might do is have more of a sense of humor! :) We gotta focus on something.

OTOH, undrafted players do make it in the league. Here are a few who are in the league now:

Anthony Morrow, Aron Baynes, Boban Marjanovic, Jeremy Lin, Joe Ingles, Jose Calderon, Matthew Dellavedova, Seth Curry, Tyler Johnson, Wes Matthews, Dewayne Dedmon, Willie Reed, T.J. McConnell, Robert Covington, Ian Clark, James Mcadoo, Yogi Farrell, etc. etc. etc.

That's just off the top of my head -- there are plenty more. Not to mention that historically some tremendous players weren't drafted: Ben Wallace would be an obvious example.

Edit:

PG: T.J. McConnell / Tyler Johnson
SG: Seth Curry / Wes Mathews
SF: Joe Ingles / Robert Covington
PF: Willie Reed / James Mcadoo
C: DeWayne Dedmon / Boban Marjanovic

Looks like a pretty good bench to me. All current undrafted players.

Potential

1. latent qualities or abilities that may be developed and lead to future success or usefulness.
"a young broadcaster with great potential"
synonyms: possibilities, potentiality, prospects

2. what dreams are made of...

3. path to disappointment...

Funny stuff that potential. Kind of reminds me of love, high risk high reward. But I'll take a chance on love everytime.
And I love me some new toys with potential.

Free Keene !!

:D

A big sense of humor is helpful when reading this post and thread. Especially since the biggest amigo was released. I was really hoping to see him fire up some threes.

I watched a replay of the GS/Sixers game today & got depressed.

For GS, McCaw (R2 pick they bought last year), Bell (R2 pick they bought this year), Kevon Looney (#30 pick in 2015) & Damian Jones (#30 pick in 2016) all looked outstanding. Two of them are 21, the others 22.

For Philly, Korkmaz (#26 pick/2016 - 19 years old), Jonah Bolden (R2 this year / 21), Timothy L-C (#24 pick/2016 - 22 years old), Alex Poythress (undrafted 2016 - 23) & Isaiah Miles (undrafted 2016 - 23) all looked really good as well. Fultz looked great until he sprained his ankle.

They all looked better than any of the young players on our team. To be explicit here: the undrafted Poythress looked a lot better than R1 pick McCullough.

Sounds like player development and long-term planning in-action, we won't have our G-League affiliate until 1-2 seasons from now and we're stocking it with un-drafted players for now.

It is depressing. But as long as you are mentioning 2015 picks, the Wizards at least have Oubre.

Is it my TV or does Robinson's ankles, calves & thighs remind anyone else of Olive Oil's legs from Popeye the sailor man?

Maybe it's me glasses.

Not sure what happened to Mike Young. He's no longer listed on the Delaware 87ers roster and is now listed on the Northern Arizona Suns. Maybe he was moved, because the 87ers acquired Christian Wood - who had an outstanding 1st game with them. I'm not sure if Wood's rights are owned by any NBA team - he was on the Mavs' Vegas team. If he's available, sign him.

I don’t remember who Isaac Humphries is.

Young might be with the Wizards right now. He was a few days ago if I remember right.

I like Christian Wood. I was recommending we sign him this Summer (& last Summer too, I think!). No NBA team has any hold on him right now. If we had a 2-way contract available, I'd definitely grab him for that. But we have Young & Robinson in those 2 slots. I'd be likely to replace Young w/ Wood, but this is not the kind of move that gets Ernie's attention -- his Netflix Watch List is too long to waste time on the end of our roster.

I don't think Young is with the Wizards. Besides, didn't they open a roster space when they cut Carrick Felix right after he got himself suspended? I seem to recall the press release said they did that to gain roster flexibility.

Yes, I remember you commenting positively about Wood. I agree - he's got potential - very long and appears to be athletic - basically a more talented version of Chris McCullough.

Thanks for bumping so I don't have to post in the individual threads. I was going to post in one of them that Young is now playing on the Suns G-League team while Devin Robinson remains with the 87ers, I wonder why that is?

My guess was that it was to give Young more PT because they knew the 87ers were acquiring Wood, but I don't know.

I'm begging EG to sign Christian Wood. Through 5 games, his per 40 numbers are 27.2 points, 11.4 rebounds, 4.6/1.9 assist/to's, 2.9 blocks, and 2.4 steals. And, he's starting to make 3's. Probably sells popcorn during halftime. PER of 30.7 and TS% of 61. And he just turned 22 in September. There are NBA rookies older than him. Put down that third slice of pumpkin pie and sign him to multi years now, please.

Yup. Plus, we have a roster spot. He was in the league briefly, which may mean that he fits somewhere on the veteran minimum schedule; whatever it is, it ain't much.

(Btw, Young was with the Wizards briefly; I remember at least one game where he was listed in the box as "DNP - Coach's decision.")

So Grunfeld, like, wtf do we have a roster spot at this point in the season for?
