After a very tough & damaging loss to Minny tonight, the Wizards are in 5th place w/ 14 games to go -- 7 at home & 7 on the road. We're 1 game behind Cleveland -- they play Phoenix tonight -- & 1 game ahead of Philadelphia after their loss to Indy this evening.

Anything can happen of course, but looking at schedules, it might be tough to stay ahead of the Sixers who have an easier road home by far than we do. Our best bet to stay #5 might be if Cleveland continues to falter. Alternatively, we'll have to win some tough road games.

We project to just under 46 wins; to get to 46 we have to go 8-6 against a tough schedule. Beating Boston tomorrow would be big, but it's a road game vs. an extremely good team as the back end of a back to back... going to be tough. They're pretty beat up, however, which might make it possible.

After tomorrow, we have 3 more back to backs. A grind for sure.

Bullets Forever has a good breakdown of the 4-team race in the East for the 3-6 seeds.

The bottom line is that the Wizards really can't afford to let up. They need that 3rd seed so they can face Indiana in the first round followed by Boston in the 2nd round. If they finish 4th or 5th, they'll end up facing Philly or Cleveland in the first round, and Toronto in the 2nd round. Ouch.

Hmmm. It'll be interesting to see if we end up in a tank battle with Indy in the last 2 or 3 games in an effort to drop to the 6th seed, which looks like an easier path than the 5th seed.

I think Washington splits with the Spurs, drops one out of Knicks, Hornets, Pistons, Bulls, drops both against the Cavs and Rockets, beats the Celtics and Hawks and the Magic game is probably a toss up based on whether there's anything to be gained in the standings.

That's 46-36 and probably puts the Wizards in the sixth seed.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Washington drop one or two of their winnable games to drop all the way to 7th.

I could see a healthy Wizards squad eliminate Boston in the first round in as little as 5 games.

San Antonio doesn't boggle my mind nearly as much as Dallas. At least San Antonio has been essentially a 60-win team for that entire 18-year stretch. The last time we beat them in San Antonio was the last time they weren't an elite team. It's not so much that San Antonio owns us specifically. They pretty much have owned all of the bad/mediocre teams in the league. If they beat bad/mediocre teams at home 90% of the time, it's just a matter of statistical probability that a handful of those bad/mediocre teams are going to have a very long streak of losses.

Dallas has beaten us, home and away, in 15 of the last 16 meetings, and Dallas hasn't even been very good since 2011. They won 22, 33, 42, 50, 49 and 41 games in the last 6 seasons respectively but still manage to beat us every time. We have legitimately been BETTER than Dallas for the last 3 years, but still have managed to lose all 3 of our HOME games against them. How does that happen?

Things could potentially change if when Wall comes back he displaces Sessions and we still get 25+ mins of Sato a night. Kudos to the team for maintaining the record they have but they need a jolt of energy.
