So we have all talked about our impending cap situation in 2 years and have discussed ways to proceed.
No matter how we evaluate Wall's on the court, there is no conceivable way we can trade him without a full rebuild. He is our franchise.

So, it really comes down to Brad and Otto. Both are young stars who make A LOT of money, but contribute accordingly.

Based on the assumption that Oubre proves to be a solid 3rd piece to a contender(I.E. Josh Howard/Tayshaun Prince)...
Which of Beal or Otto would you look to move and for what value?

I will look to bump this thread around the trade deadline and again in the summer.

If this thread is to exist, then Wall should certainly be included in it. I'm not suggesting he should be traded, but once we're looking at altering the core 3-some at the heart of the team, it does become one of the options.

(So I edited the name of the thread to that end, changing it from Brad and Otto: Trading a star to add John)

This.

Wall is older, he is a point guard who depends on speed, and his knees are already bothering him. He starts making 40 million dollars pretty soon.

Wall is the guy that needs to be traded before Brad or Otto.

On top of everything a Wall trade probably gets you back a decent player plus a couple of number one picks.

Why not? Anybody can be traded: it all depends what you get back in the trade.

If Wall is that kind of player, a franchise player, then presumably we would get a lot back in a trade. In that case why would this involve a full rebuild?

No, I think this is a topic all on its own. It's really not about a trade -- it's about the strategy that might be required, or might be optimal, to build the next period of this franchise.

I don't think anyone needs to be traded right now. With Otto's ascension have 3 top 30 players in the league. Oubre is developing nicely.

Wall hasn't hit his stride yet. He usually does so by December. I'm not overly worried there. When Wall kicks it into gear with the improving Beal, Porter & Oubre our ceiling gets a bit higher and we'll definitely play better offensively.

The problem is the $33+ million we have invested in the C position which right now is our weakest spot IMO. I'd do everything to clear that dead weight off the cap before trading any of our top 4.

At peak I think the core of Wall, Beal, Porter & Oubre can consistently win 55-60 games in the East surrounded by replacement level talent. Question is whether Ernie is capable of that.

Wall should be included in any discussion of trading one of our best players. In fact, at his age and contract he's the one I'd most likely trade but I'm far from that at this point.

Oubre is probably the next guy I'd consider moving but only if it returned a star or a blue chip prospect.

Porter is the last guy I'd consider moving. He's simply been too good. I've never rooted for a player before where I'd hope he'd jack up the first look he gets.

To me you either clean house and hit the reset button or you continue to contend(or in the Wiz case, pretend). I really don’t like the idea of trading good players for different good players, it just becomes an exercise in shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.

So I guess you want your boy DeMarcus Cousins here in D.C. badly that you're willing to give UP JW and what ever else are you willing to give up to match the salary. OK let us know when Cousins makes this team better than Cleveland or Boston without JW presence. I'm out too much BS nonsense here for just pure hate. Beal and Otto are bums without JW.

I would trade Wall to New Orleans and try to put together a package for Antony Davis. They HAVE TO take Mahinmi.

The only way I want Cousins is with Wall still on the Wizards.

I'd trade Wall for Anthony Davis obviously. but i agree with Dat, try to unload that **** at the center position. the core of Wall-Beal-Oubre-Porter is going to be great, if Ernie could somehow find them a rim protector they would be fine in the east.

I'd trade Wall: he's the older one of Beal, Porter and Oubre.
