I love the name Capital Go-Go! :)

When this last song was big I was pretty much a stripper but not dancing in a club!

My nickname was GI Joe and I was living in a women's dorm in a room shared by my girlfriend and her roommate. (No. Was nothing too kinky going on. A huge dresser divided the room like a partition, and I was a gentleman ... believe it or not. More to the point women were not as forward as they are today. They didn't just come on to you really heavy ...You had to work for it or at least initiate for the most part.). The killing part about it is I did not know how good I had it. The most fun years of my life 1982-83 thru 1986! Go-go music always makes me happy.
Bye bye Beal.

If you make a house out of waffles, don't pour syrup over it.

Has anyone here ever been a short order cook? I have.

That couplet would work better if the first line read "3 in the morning, we're at the waffle house. That's a dactyl, a troche & 3 iambs, which is what the 2d line has.

The way it is now is kind of hard to scan. You could leave the "AND" our of the second line, but in that case it'd be better as a quatrain -- or 2 couplets:

3 in the morning
At the waffle house

4 in the morning
PIF begins to shout

But, why stop there?

Giving no warning
Quiet as a mouse

He began storming
"Girl, zip down your blouse!"

& so forth...

I'm obviously no expert on Go-Go music but I did go to P.G. County schools in the eighties (Largo, Pullen). Played in the symphonic band with some dudes that were in bands like E.U. and Rare Essence. Always wondered why Go-Go never made it mainstream big like Rap, which started nearly around the same time.

Adele with the Go-Go beat is pretty damn close to mainstream.

You get my point. Just asking a question. Go-Go was mostly pertinent to D.C. while rap became a universal phenomenon. Maybe I'm wrong, but Da Butt by EU was the biggest Go-Go song that went mainstream well after Chuck Brown's Bustin Loose.

"Da Butt" might be the biggest hit by a go-go band (especially if you consider "Bustin' Loose" proto go-go, as Chuck hadn't yet refined the sound), but the go-go sound did filter into the mainstream here and there.

Rap producer Herbie Luv Bug experimented with the go-go sound in the late '80s, resulting in minor hits like Kid n' Play's "Rollin' With Kid n' Play" and Salt n' Pepa's "Shake Your Thang" (feat. EU's Suga Bear on the hook).

Jill Scott's debut album featured a go-go track, "It's Love."

And, DC native Rich Harrison produced a few R&B songs in the '00s that reflected go-go's influence, including Amerie's hit single "1 Thing".

Allen, Gee, Zimmerman.

Is Zimmerman any good?
