We have a really good young core piece in the g-league and its Joel Ayayi. He is having an outstanding rookie season. 13.4 points 6.9 rebounds 7.8 assists on 65% TS. The wizards should call him up at the deadline and play him 20+ minutes a night after we move on from Holiday and Neto and finally punt on this season.

In the first 2 “regular season” games, Ayayi leads the team with a ridiculous 39.2 on/off differential.

Agree on Ayayi, I really hope he gets an opportunity.

Seconded. He deserves a shot ahead of Tommy’s 2 midget shooting guards (Neto, Holiday). Ayayi is much more a point guard than both of them, much bigger in size and is a prospect worth developing.

Ayayi just put up 12 assists the other night. I’ve been surprised by his playmaking.

Jamie Echinique has been the most productive player on the team - while making 71% of his shots. 6'10 260, 24 years old. Hopefully he gets a shot with an NBA team.

The go go are sort of loaded with talent actually. Echinique is a double double machine. The guy is posting 20 points and 12.6 rebounds 2.5 assists and 2.7 blocks per 36 on 67.8% TS. He was a really good player at Wichita state as well. Excellent defender and shot blocker/rebounder. I absolutely think the Wiz found a quality NBA rotation piece with him.

The other night, Ayayi put up his routine efficient 14 point 8 assist 7 rebound and was +20. Right in line with his season averages.

I would have signed Ayayi to a regular roster contract at a bargain price the day after the draft.

At least Tommy picked him up -- another Lakers cast off! But... let's not punt on him the way we did with Garrison Mathews.

What I would love to see is for Washington to trade all our guys who are known but who are actually in the mediocre range because these guys on the Go-Go’s are just as good.

No doubt about how he's playing. He's absolutely killing it: if he put up his G League numbers in the NBA, he'd be one of the top 5 Centers in the league.

But, the G League isn't the NBA. & the sample size is quite small so far. Still, good results are good results.

NatP4 wrote:...He was a really good player at Wichita state as well. Excellent defender and shot blocker/rebounder....

Wichita State played against pretty good competition -- not the best, but pretty good all the same. & Echenique started as a Freshman & a Sophomore. Came out after 2 years.

His numbers per 40 minutes were quite good as a Freshman. Then they dropped by about 10% as a Sophomore. Although they still were reasonably good, I'm wondering why he went into the draft at that point. Did the college change coaches between his two years...?

NatP4 wrote:...I absolutely think the Wiz found a quality NBA rotation piece with him. ...

Key positive factoid: Jaime Echenique is playing much better in the G League than he did in college. I'd say that's a solid positive predictor for him.

OTOH, he's going to turn 25 in late April (...which explains why he entered the draft). So... he needs to land somewhere. Not sure it'll be with us.

He was (eyeball) the worst player on our team in SL against NBA players, way too-slow for the NBA IMO, but I could be wrong.

I’m confused at how the organization views Ayayi. We had the stretch of signing random guys off the street just to have bodies and Ayayi wasn’t even getting playing time.

I would be playing him as a regular rotation piece 20+ minutes a night. I had him graded as a mid to late 1st round pick.

I think it's 2 things - both that he can overcome. One is 3 point shooting - where he's just not getting it done. The other is -it's tough being a rookie PG in the NBA. I think they saw that when they pushed Winston last season with it not working out well. I'm not as big a fan of him as you and Pif seem to be, but I think he has a decent chance of making it in the NBA. Like I've said, he reminds me of Jerian Grant.

Echinique is still playing better than anyone else on the team. Had 21 points shooting 8 of 12 and had 19 boards in the last game. Can't say that the organization has done a great job of getting and developing NBA talent this year for the GoGo's.

Ayayi probably had his best game as a pro: 12 of 17 shooting, 25 points, 11 boards, 9 assists, 3 to's. Still needs to prove he can be a 3 point shooting threat, imo.
