John Wall's Adidas Contract

Post#1 » by Coach76 » Wed Feb 7, 2018 8:39 pm

I had no idea that this was his second go around with Adidas. Sports Illustrated broke down the incentives:

Which of these is he likely to get next season? I say All-Star reserve and lead the league in assists are very doable.

Those are doable, but I'm kind of surprised he signed this deal. Obviously every year he went without a deal was compounding what he'd potentially make up in an eventually achieved ideal deal, but man, no signature shoe and it's two million less than what they offered him in base salary when he told them to take a hike.

In hindsight too getting paid a little over half as much as Hardens deal wasn't a bad deal either given how good Harden is. And he was still getting sig shoes then.

Maybe his marketability value decreased since his first deal and why he went awhile without signing a shoe deal (his perceived worth vs. his actual worth). I mean, he's not really the most media savvy dude. And he doesn't have the MVP caliber talent that Rose showcased that superseded his lack of marketability.

I said it at the time, Wall is getting some really poor advice from the people in his corner.

He basically went from a $7.5 million a year with a signature shoe to a fraction of that, no signature shoe and some collab options that aren't really going to move the needle for him.

Judging by his latest television appearance, it seems like Wall needs somebody in his ear to tell him what those yes-men around him apparently aren't willing to.

I think his first deal was actually with Reebok, then they got bought by adidas... And since the Wiz sucked at the time, he didnt get the exposure he needed to sell kicks, so things got weird with the contract...

That said, if I was him, Id be angling for some player edition "John Wall x Yeezy" kicks.... I know for sure they'd sell out at least in DC
