Question for longtime Wiz/Bullets fans about drafting Jason Kidd

My older friends told me that the Bullets were on the verge of trading up to draft Kidd in the 1994 draft. Was there any truth to this? Imagine how our franchise fortunes would have changed?

I do not remember that at the time but we got Webber the next year. Could have been a great inside/perimeter combo. I'm sure that we wouldn't have gotten Strickland if we had Kidd but the main question is would we have still been bad enough to draft Sheed so we could have a good 3 big rotation with Muresan.
It does not matter. We would have screwed it up. We took Howard instead of trading up for Kidd, got rid of young Sheed for older smaller Strickland, got rid of young Webber for older smaller Richmond, got rid of Big Ben for no reason after showing crazy promise, and I believe that we made Juwan Howard the first 100 million dollar man in the league.... Supposedly, there was a big wedge between Howard and GM John Nash, because Nash said he would have preferred getting Kidd and supposedly used that as part of his negotiations with Howard and his agent, the Bird of Prey, David Falk. So, it's very likely that Nash tried to trade up for Kidd.

I don't recall local media reporting anything like that. Bullets might have floated the idea to trade up and get Kidd or Hill. Can't recall what they had to trade, other than the future. I guess Gugliotta.

Not to hijack this thread but..
Mark Price
Wizards sent their 1996 1st rounder to Cleveland for a guy that ended up playing 7 games for the Bullets.
Cleveland drafted Potapenko with that 12th pick, the 13th pick? Kobe Bryant.

What's interesting about that Mark Price trade, Nash had reservations about trading the pick given Price's iffy injury history.
He was somewhat adamant about getting some sort of protection.
With a playoff push in mind Pollin sort of went over Nash's head, talked to Cavs owner directly seeking assurances that Price would be able to play and made a handshake agreement with him directly.

It’s ok. We got Price’s brother, Brent, later. He was awesome. [/sarcasm]
