I'm going to compose my thoughts.... My suggestion (to follow) is very similar to what happened 15, no 16 years ago.

At that time I was blessed to speak with one of the principals involved in making this trade. At Pete Newell's Camp I also got the autograph of a player you guys know. (Nene)

I made a past general manager blush when I asked him how the hell did you make that deal?

My mom's first name was Bobbie. The Wizards had a player named Bobby Simmons. That day, not knowing what else to do, I went to Kamehameha School, (where the camp was held)...

I was crying and just trying to grasp what was going on... I thought watching the pros in the college guys work out it would take my mind off of things for a minute.

The first thing I saw ....A player who had the name..."B-O-B-B-I-E" on his jersey. It was so weird but it wasn't weird....

Each and every player in terms of their asset or liability and League perceived market value.

2. Make a decision based on some sort of sound reasoning.

Prioritize

Come up with a pecking order of who to trade and who not to trade. EVERYBODY is subject to trade because this is a business.

However, players that are keepers have intrinsic and extrinsic worth to the organization, the community, and most of all the winning and losing.

3. Soberly consider making a deal with what I posted above in mind. Denver made out like bandits after the moves they made above.

Strategize

The Knicks considered it an equitable trade at the time. (I think Denver clearly got the better of that trade... McDyess was pretty well cook but he did play for them a few years even with Carmelo Anthony). Know your history...


Washington needs to remember how Boston got to the championship after they acquired Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. Washington also needs to remember how the Lakers acquired Pao Gasol. They added a player with a checkered past in Metta World Peace. They had players with sketchy character/work ethic; among which was Andrew Bynum.

By strategize, I mean plan to make a hell of a good deal this offseason.

Wizards are at the point where this team cannot improve any more with bench or peripheral signings. A talent upgrade is sorely needed. Unfortunately this needed to be done last season or the season before. The issue with doing that sort of thing right today is I don't know of a team who is gonna be happy to add a player that takes up 25% of their cap space. But there have been stranger things to happen.

True. Teams won't like it but stranger things have happened!

I am kind of an older guy. I remember when Juwan Howard first became a Wizard (he might have been a Bullets player actually before they became the Wizards).

jayscott, when Juwan Howard was making approximately the same amount of money as Kevin Garnett and Shaquille O'Neal; I was sure NOBODY wanted his contract.

Michael Jordan the GM did better than Ernie Grunfeld ever did just by virtue of moving Juwan's contract.

On top of that, because he somehow persuaded Byron Russell to get out of Washington; MJ is sort of the reason that EG was able to sign Gilbert Arenas....

So, great trades and player acquisitions can happen even when it seems there's no way. That's why I'm saying the Wizards need to do those steps above. Valuate. Prioritize. Strategize.
