We're all living-out our version of Groundhog Day.

Watch him retire and Tommy Sheppard take over after there's no legitimate search for a GM.

Since they moved to DC: Bob Ferry, John Nash, Wes, MJ, and Pringles. Danny Ferry next?
Ted won’t fire him but Ernie will “retire”. Ernie actually has a lot of respect around the league from being in the NBA for 40 years, so won’t just kick him to curb.

What is the most frustrating about Ernie is that he has been pinpoint on average. He's not above average, he's not really below average. He's been the best we have had in the almost 40 years after the Bullets championship season, but being the best from that era on means being painfully average. You almost feel like you deserve painfully average because everything preceding it has been terrible. Ernie has built this franchise two different playoff eras and both eras have been good but very disappointing. Its not fair to be able to stick around in your job for so long because you are average. Ernie has never strived for this franchise, or maybe even for himself, to be better than average.

He's built a marginal playoff contender through trades and free agency, and he's built a marginal playoff contender through the draft. He's a two-weapon mediocrity.

He's not average. I've heard this argument before. Calling him average is offending average folks everywhere. Don't look at the record, look at the AMOUNT of assets he's blown through. Look at how far behind he's been in modernizing our roster. Look at culture of underachievement, excuses and irrational "were better than we are" confidence all of his teams have possessed. The guy has survived multiple rebuilds, gun gate, being a league laughingstock and currently has us in cap hell 2 yes after going all in on a Mahinmi, Smith & Nicholson offseason.
That certainly doesn't sound like average to me.

Let’s not forget his durability- while all his players are collectively spraining, straining, and tearing every ligament and tendon in the human anatomy, has Ernie ever even missed a day with the flu since he’s been with us? The guy just keeps going and going and going...

Good GMs don't blow through their assets. Great GMs find ways to keep winning. He's about average. He can build a playoff roster but not much else. I don't like the entitled and spoiled culture his teams seem to have. That goes all the way back to his days with the Knicks. The only reason why I don't say he's below average is because he's found ways for teams to get wins. Below average GMs don't do that at all. But I am not gonna argue about how average or below average he is though because right today, we all agree that we want him gone. And arguing over that bit is all semantical when we know he's not doing his job to the best of his ability.

15 seasons.
Regular season record: 585-676
Made playoffs 8 times. 4-6 in playoff series. Will likely lose in the first round this year.
I can't call that average with zero conference finals. Zero 50 win seasons. Probably after this season a 4-7 record in playoff series.
I will give him credit for remarkable durability and staying power.

If anyone has the time and inclination, might be interesting to see what the roster would look like if the Wiz had made ZERO deals in the last 15 years but kept everyone drafted with the picks that they would have had with their record (though this doesn't account for his below average draft record)
