Eh, we have a legitimate backup option with Green so I'm not too worried.

Chances are that if things go well with Green and the Howard experiment, Morris could turn out to be the sacrificial lamb to get us under the lux tax threshold.

Color me unenthused.

I guess EG's new strategy is to collect as many unlikeable players as possible. Wall is allegedly unpopular amongst his peers. Rivers seems to carry that as well. Morris isn't exactly easy to root for. And Dwight Howard has a rep for being as welcome as a loud fart in a church service.

What I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall for the Wizards annual players only meeting.

We just might hear about Austin Rivers body being dumped in the potomac afterwards.

So it's not the MLE?

I wouldn't mind Lucas Noguiera if we could get rid of Jason Smith or IM. But they apparently want a wing. There is nothing out there worth the MLE in terms of wings that I've seen that hasn't been signed yet.

Nate, what is the salary cap ramification if any, if we don't use the tax MLE?

I certainly like it more for the minimum -- but I agree that I'm not sure who else we'd sign unless we were about to trade asset+Mahinmi for lux tax relief.

Could we keep the MLE to sign buyouts after the trade deadline?

I know they apparently have interest in Treveon Graham but he's nowhere close to being worth the MLE.

Actually, Howard's larger interior presence might allow us to get away with starting Porter at the 4.

Wall/Sato
Beal/Rivers/Sato
Oubre/Porter/Sato/Rook
Porter/Morris/Smith
Howard/Mahinmi/Morris/Smith

Personalities aside, that's not a horrible rotation.

Whether its the minimum or the MLE I still like the deal. At this point, we had to do whatever we could to make sure Mahinmi wasn't the starter going into next season. Dwight is a slight upgrade over Gortat from a stats perspective. I just hope the locker room doesnt go downhill because of it.

Wow, Marc Stein reported Boogie was offered 2 yrs, $40M from New Orleans before the season ended. They then took it off the table.

Kieff can't play next to Dwight. Both will be on skates. We need to run Otto or Green at PF next to Dwight. Let's not sacrifice 20 games again by playing a lineup we all knew wasn't going to work from jump

Oops, that's right.

I'd like to see:

Wall/Sato/5th guard
Beal/Rivers/Sato/5th guard
Oubre/Porter/Sato/Rook
Porter/Morris/Green/
Howard/Morris/Mahinmi/Smith

But we're more likely to see:

Wall/3rd guard/Sato
Beal/Rivers/Sato/
Porter/Oubre/Rivers/Rook
Morris/Green/Porter
Howard/Mahinmi/Morris/Smith

Now is the time to think about getting rid of that Mahinmi contract

I just don't know how we can reasonably expect the Wizard's locker room to keep Howard in check.

That's actually a great point.

I think one of the reasons that Brooks was hesitant to play Otto at the 4 was due to the rebounding. Howard is a monster on the defensive glass and can get most of the rebounds by himself. He has a 33% DRB% for goodness sake.

It's an outstanding deal if it's for the vet min. I'm still semi ok with it if it's the MLE.

We are over the luxtax by about $6-7M. We are facing a repeater tax. Every dollar that Ted spends (using the MLE or vet minimum or any other exception) will cost Ted an additional $2.75 in taxes. So spending $4M on a guy will cost Ted $15M out of pocket.

We're not going to sign anyone else except vet minimum guys. We have 13 guys already guaranteed money. That's not counting Thomas Bryant, Devin Robinson or Issuf Sanon. We'll probably carry 14, so only one of those guys at most makes it.

He’s the best rebounder we’ve had on the Wiz since Ben Wallace
