Strange... They move Allen for a late Bucks pick in 2022, but then Levert for Dipo... seems... Off.

A blockbuster!

Don't get why Houston prefers a 1-year of Oladipo to Levert who is locked on a reasonable 3-year $53/mn contract...

Houston did awful. But their focus seems to be similar to what I suggested:
- They dont have their 2021 pick and 2024 pick, so it behoves them to field a competitive team this year (As much as possible). Bottom out in 2022 & 2023 and then be back in playoff hunt in 23/24 season.

But they couldnt do better than a pick in the 27-30 range in 2022 for Allen?
And Im not a Levert fan, but he's been as good or better than Dipo on a better contract.

Why not move him for a pick instead of a mediocre Dipo?

Wow!

Houston did really well considering the circumstances. Turning Harden into a younger Oladipo while getting 4 first round picks and 4 1st round swaps. Most of those picks are late, but by 2024 or so, Brooklyn's fortunes could turn south. Durant and Harden aren't getting any younger.

Wish we could’ve acquired Allen for basically nothing

Well, they paid a MIL 1st rounder and had to absorb Prince's hefty contract. But yeah, they did great in the trade. Drummond is gone next season if not traded by the deadline. Plus they have a good young core going forward: Sexton/Garland/Porter Jr/Okoro/Allen plus Larry Nance.

I think this is a bad move for Brooklyn. I'm not sure how much they're improved with Harden. There's only 1 basketball and somebody has to play defense. And now they're without Allen and LeVert.

Meanwhile, they left themselves very vulnerable to what happened a decade ago after they traded future picks for a washed up Pierce and Garnett. They might suck in 2025, 2026 and 2027 while giving their picks to Houston.

Would love to trade Westbrook for Drummond. Of course, it makes no sense for Cleveland, but it would solve a lot of our problems nicely. Drummond replaces Bryant's minutes and single-handedly cures our rebounding problem; Westbrook's contract is off the books; and we would no longer see 2-PG lineups.

It seems like a lose-lose, maybe a win for Cleveland. How do you only get 20-30 ranked 1st round picks for James Harden? Oladipo is a free agent this off-season. Brooklyn continues to mortgage the future, Harden is 31, and Kyrie is off the rails right now anyways.

This is what I really want to avoid with a Beal trade.

Yes. Avoiding a Beal trade is the best option.

But I don't think this is a bad haul for Harden. 4 picks and 4 pick swaps is a lot. Durant is 32 and Harden is 31 and they're both under contract for just 1 more year plus a player option in the year after. Assuming they opt in, then in Summer 2023, Durant will be 34 and Harden 33. Brooklyn will have been capped out for 2 years, with no new role players coming in and no youth. Will they stick around? If they don't, then Houston gets 4 great picks in 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027

Let's say they stick around for 2 more years until Durant is 36 and Harden is 35. Then it's Summer 2025 and the wheels fall off. Houston will still get 2 great picks in 2026 and 2027.

I'm not even sure I'd do it. That's how much I dislike Kyrie. His contract is just as long too.

Kyrie is obviously more movable, so I guess I would do it, if only to flip Kyrie somewhere else.

WOW I wonder how Mariah Kyrie will respond to playing with Harden. Maybe he is MIA because he knew this trade was coming.

With Cleveland already playing well and now adding Allen and Prince, they may have moved ahead of us in terms of playoff potential. And if New York continues to play well, at what point does it make more sense to go ahead and commit to tanking?

Once westbrook gets back we can get our stealth tank back on track.

I'm having a tough time seeing Kyrie playing with Harden. Maybe Brooklyn's given up on Kyrie. Can't see him having much trade value - as he's so unreliable, and he was a disaster in Boston. They really need an interior defender now that Allen's gone.
