The Wizards currently have the worst record in the NBA. What has happened? The Wizards simply have been worse in almost every statistical category from last season' from shooting from 3 point range, passing the ball, rebounding the ball, and even possessing the ball. Wall and Beal have appeared to decide to give pointers on how the team should be run through the media which has done little to improve the team play. In the meantime, Wall is averaging a career low in assists, Beal is taking more 3s but his TS% is still the same despite having a healthy John Wall. Otto Porter appears to have hit a shooting slump, and is even rebounding the ball worse than Markieff Morris while playing more minutes. Scott Brooks also appears set in playing Austin Rivers over Satoransky, which goes against most statistical reasoning unless there is a reason that Satoransky has regressed. The Wizards switching defense has also been pretty bad.
The Wizards go against the OKC Thunder who also had a tumultuous start to the season. The Thunder started off 0-4 but reeled off two wins including one against the Clippers who steamrolled the Wizards. If the Wizards want to maximize their chances of winning, they have to keep the Thunder off the boards, play better defense, and run a competent NBA offense. The Wizards should attempt to avoid stop settling for mid-range jumpers early in the shot clock.
Here is the last time the Wizards beat the Thunder; note the Wizards were playing without John Wall but Satoransky did a great job in slowing down Westbrook who only had 13 points.
