John Wall on NBA Referees: “I have no respect for them”

This is the hallmark of an angry dude, lashing out with no concern for the consequences.
The refs aren’t gonna ease up on him now. Hell, they’re not going to cut any slack to anyone in a red white and blue uni now. Some team leader...
I’d say yes to a trade offer of Wall for 1 piece of bread and a slice of bologna. Fold it over, call it a ham sandwich, and be happy.
“I have nothing to say to them. I have no respect for them. Simple as that. I get the same excuse every time,” said Wall. “Just cause I’m stronger than everybody I don’t get those calls. I have no respect for them. They do their job. I do my job. I have nothing to say about them or nothing nice to say toward them.”

Don't blame him tbh
Veteran who is a multiple all star, all-nba, been to the playoffs now a few years...
And still the refs swallow their whistle on so many drives where he is clearly fouled. He has a reputation of playing fast and out-of-control. If his jersey said "HARDEN" or "WADE" etc. he'd get so many more trips to the line.

That's career suicide. He just turned on the judge, jury and the executioner. From now on, any 50/50 call will go against him. The guy just can't get out of his own way.

We’re watching slow-moving self-destruction

Maybe, but for gawds sake you don’t publicly call out the entire reffing profession.
It’s like putting your boss on blast. You may be in the right, but you’re gonna suffer. And anyone perceived to be running with you may very well get the **** end of the stick too.
I believe John knows it, and doesn’t give a damn about the consequences to himself, his teammates. He done quit, mentally.

Wall was angry after a bad loss where he didn't get calls. Someone stuck a mic in his face. He said an unwise thing. It happens. This is much ado about nothing.
The bigger issue is that he gets draws too many technical fouls. He needs to keep his emotions under control more when he's on the floor.

True but he also sucks at finishing at the rim. It's so odd, watching some tapes of college and early NBA he was an amazing finisher even with contact. WTF happened?

He puts himself in awful positions on drives by trying to finesse a layup into the basket while going 100 mph. And since he's usually got a step and the contact isn't there until after the release, refs don't call it a lot of times. It's a very difficult finish most of the time too.
He's got to start trying to bait more contact and use glass more. Also he should sometimes gather hop into the basket and pump fake/attempt to finish. It's unreal that he almost never pump fakes. No matter what when he gets to the rim he either attempts a tough finish or a kickout. He's just makes the game so hard on himself when the job is 90% done. Even getting that close to the rim is usually a victory for the offense, and then he makes the situation awful by attempting a very tough finger roll.

I don't think you're remembering his rookie year right. He had a horrible time finishing because he'd be going too fast to the rim to control the layin. He's actually improved on his finishing over the years.

Wall is right at his career average in FG% at the rim. He is having one of his best seasons ever in terms of the percentage of shots he is taking at the rim. (Only his 2nd season was better.) Perhaps he should be getting better, but there's certainly no indication that he is getting worse.

Most likely he'll issue an apology to the referees. "I was angry at myself after a loss & took it out on the refs...." Then he'll apologize personally to a few of them in the following games, & that'll be that.
John Wall's attitude is not our problem. As to his play, the difference between this season & his career-best season two years ago comes down to a couple of things:
1. Free throw shooting: John's 2pt. % is higher than it was two years ago, & his 3 pt. % is the same as it was then (on more 3pt. attempts). His eFG% is up, in other words. In fact, it's at a career high! But his TS% is down all the same, because he's shooting 67.6% from the line. If he were shooting 80% on his FTs, as he did 2 years ago, he'd be posting a career high in both points & TS%.
2. Assists: John is down 2.25 assists per 40 minutes compared to 2 years ago. Currently, he is #11 in assists this year among PGs who've played significant minutes. But, in 2016-17, he was #4.
For the rest, overall, he's playing at the same level he did 2 years ago. He's a little down in steals & rebounding, but he's also turning it over less, & he's up in blocked shots.
On the whole, however, his level of play is down from that best year. & if there's a concern, it's that after over 20,000 minutes of NBA play, John Wall is quite likely past his peak, meaning that one might speculate that he's unlikely to return to that level, even less likely to sustain that level of play, & almost certainly won't improve on it.
At the same time, obviously, that's not a statement about John Wall in particular but rather about the usual arc of an NBA player's career. So, we'll just have to wait and see.

It seems like he doesn't get calls but if I'm not mistaken I remember Buckhantz saying he gets to the ft line about at the same rate as Harden and other elite players.

This is where not having a veteran mentor comes into play. He's fighting a battle he cannot win. He'll never get a fair shake with this approach.

This is so silly.
So can we assume Otto & Brad are past their peak too based on this year's play? Same for Kelly. I guess he's totally washed up.
So to my point. how in the world can you draw any legitimate conclusions from the stats so far this season???
Have actually you watched that mess out there?
The only real conclusion I can draw is that this team hates each other and goes through the motions the great majority of the time. The lack of effort, the lack of fight. The multiple blow outs. This is not an example of guys playing at their max ability. How do you draw statistical conclusions when guys aren't trying to rebound or make the extra pass?
I don't know if Wall has lost a step. How would anyone know? You don't determine that in 20 games and you especially don't determine it when the entire team has quit in a number of games so far this season.
I do know Wall looked a lot quicker at the end of last season and the last playoffs. Quicker than he does now. I assume that's the weight gain.

John’s attitude isn’t a problem, but he’s sucking at FTs and Assists, both of which are largely mental, as in do I concentrate enuf to shoot as well as I can and to distribute the rock? Yah, no attitude problem.

He's been in the league long enough to know when not to say unwise things. I wouldn't even expect this from a rookie.

I agree, and those are the kind of comments that officials will likely use against the team - not just John. John's by no means the only player who gets interviewed shortly after tough games, and somehow other players don't make those kind of statements.
