MD diving on the floor for every loose ball. Morsell playing hard at both ends.

Re: Official Maryland Terps Thread 4.0
It wasn't a great game, but gotta give credit to MD - they were clearly the better team - and that's against the 11th ranked team in the country. That was a heckuva defensive performance - all game long. This might be the best defensive team MD's ever had. Morsell and Wiggins are such a good pair of defensive wings, Scott is a 4/3 who looks a lot like Myles Bridges and has outstanding defensive ability. Chol might become the best shot-blocker in the nation - but he's got to get into basketball shape and appears to have terrible hands.
Btw. I don't consider Kaleb Wesson much of an NBA prospect. His bullly-ball power game won't work in the NBA - he's got no explosion in his 2 inch vertical.

Maryland started the first four minutes with zero points. They were down 0-8.
The rest of the game they outscored OSU 67-47.
Strange team.

Kindofa trap game for MD tonight playing at Iowa. It's hard to win on the road against good solid teams like Iowa. Iowa's somewhat like Ohio State in that their best player - Luka Garza - is a big wide-bodied center who's gonna mostly play bully-ball in the paint.
MD really needs to stop playing piss-poor in the first 5 to 10 minutes of games. They're a top 10 team if they can do that - maybe even top 5 if Marial comes around.

Agreed.
Of all the Maryland teams I've seen this one has the most talent top to bottom. They've got guys who really can get after it defensively when locked in. They have athletes who can finish in transition. They have an experienced floor leader. In Marial IF he comes around they have a shot blocker who can change games defensively. If Sticks ever became assertive offensively, he'd be a 20 and 10 player; but, his game has to start from midrange/outside to inside. Scott is a really nice player. Serrel Smith is a nice defender. Wiggins would be all-world if he shot like he did last year from three.
The slow starts are MADDENING and really hard to explain.
I think Ayala is actually a better distributor early in games than Cowan.
That three-man weave is the problem.
Bye bye Beal.

This is pretty interesting.
https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/maryland-vs-iowa-odds-line-2020-college-basketball-picks-jan-10-predictions-from-proven-model/
Their model is looking for a score of something like 74 to 72 or 75-73.
I like that they're an up-tempo team. That bodes well for Maryland because they probably do not have the athletes to run with the Terps.
Maryland vs. Iowa odds, line: 2020 college basketball picks, Jan. 10 predictions from proven model
https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/maryland-vs-iowa-odds-line-2020-college-basketball-picks-jan-10-predictions-from-proven-model/
The No. 12 Maryland Terrapins look to post their first road win of the season on Friday when they take on the host Iowa Hawkeyes in a key Big Ten battle. The Terrapins (13-2), who are tied with Rutgers for second place in the conference at 3-1, are 0-2 on the road this year, while the Hawkeyes (10-5), who are tied for 12th place in the Big Ten with Ohio State at 1-3, are 6-1 at home. Tip-off from Carver-Hawkeye Arena is set for 7 p.m. ET. Maryland beat Iowa 66-65 last year in Iowa.
The Terrapins are two-point favorites in the latest Maryland vs. Iowa odds, while the over-under for total points scored is set at 147.
Their model is looking for a score of something like 74 to 72 or 75-73.
MD: Maryland ranks sixth nationally in rebounding at 42.1 per game
IOWA: Iowa is averaging 80.4 points per game, 20th-best in the country
The model has taken into account that the Terrapins have had some success against the Hawkeyes and lead the all-time series 6-3. Maryland has won two straight in the series and four of five. It is also 2-1 all-time at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Terrapins enter Friday's game 20-8 against the spread in their last 28 road games following three or more consecutive home games.
I like that they're an up-tempo team. That bodes well for Maryland because they probably do not have the athletes to run with the Terps.
Bye bye Beal.

And the Terps throw in a clunker in Iowa, who is great at home and no so great elsewhere. One of the worst efforts on both ends I've seen from a Mark Turgeon team. He even mentioned that at the half (how they barely tried). Not shocked at the loss, but this team is perplexing.

I heard the final score incorrectly, opposite of the actual outcome. I thought Maryland had blown Iowa out.
This is a very unpredictable team.

Seems like people have given up on this team. I can't say I have, but it's tough to root for them when you can't win a road game. You can't inbound the ball under duress with a tie game and 15 seconds left. It is what it is. Turge ball.

At home, they're a top 10 team. On the road... they're a top 100 team that's sure to spot their opponents several points early on. They're not going to play at home in the NCAA Tournament, so...

Actually, they get behind in just about every home game. It's probably better watching them at around the 10 minute mark of the first half. As for making the NCAA's, they should get in if they can hold serve at home, but winning a few on the road wouldn't hurt. This one of the most underachieving and poorly-coached Maryland teams that I can remember. You don't have a low post presence (nice recruiting job on the Mitchell twins), but you have length and athleticism. Why not press some, a little, trap, do something to up the tempo and force turnovers.

I think this is a year to just wait for the B1G Tournament.
I'm assuming the Terps will be .500 in conference give a take a game or two. This season teams are losing on the road and winning at home. Turgeon's 13-4. He should have them playing better and about 15-2. Big picture: They're off the mark but only by two games so far.
They won a game they should have lost against Illinois. They lost a game they should have won against Wisconsin. Two other games on the road they were favored but lost. So, it's complicated.
I think they'll beat Purdue at home on Saturday. If they lose that one, however, Turgeon's seat gets HOTT.
Bye bye Beal.

No excuse to lose to Seton Hall without Myles Powell and Iowa was an utter disaster. They never showed up. Wisconsin is a better team than Iowa. Tougher to play due to their pace, but Maryland had that game won. I was wrong, They were up one with 15 seconds left. The game was not tied. So that's 2-3 games you should win. Then there's Penn State, where they just gave up the ball up a million times. They really should have lost the Illinois game at home had Cowan not come up with a miracle shot late in the game.
Turgeon's contract makes the seat cold. His contract ends in the 2022-23 season at $2.5M a year. That means they are not going to buy him out for three more years. Probably not for two more. If they are .500 this year in conference with this talent. Wait until next season when Cowan is gone, Sticks probably gone and who knows who else. They have a 5-11 combo guard coming. That's it. Looks like they need to go juco and grad transfer route, which is never a good thing.
I'm being a lot nicer than the fans out there on Social Media and the message boards.

Truly a legend. I always thought it was a shame he never became the Terps coach. He said it was the only college job he would have been interested in, and I think he really wanted it - but he was too classy to step on anyone's toes and make a big deal about it. RIP.

Was curious what was going on with Melo Trimble these days....
He's playing for the United in the NBL Australian league. The league has quite a lot of talent, including the likes of RJ Hampton, Miles Plumlee, Andrew Bogut, and until his recent injury Lamelo Ball...
Seems not a whole lot has changed with Trimble...
