You are correct that the Wizards were a laughing stock, and the first few years with grunfeld were good, but the past decade has been awful. Grunfeld did not build a solid core. The team got lucky in the lottery 3 times, and that built the solid core. Just about everything else Grunfeld did prevented the Wizards from building a solid core around those 3.

Hands is still at-it

Yeah. Ted is a good owner and it all starts there. And some luck. And a franchise level head coach.
First thing I want from my GM is for them to find me the right Head Coach

To me, Connelly or Sheppard would be good as President. So Im good with that. But Im curious who takes the mantle as GM?
Weaver, Zarren, or Langdon is my hope

Ernie was "President." There was no official use of the term GM.

Connelly seems like a great guy from what I've seen. I sense a great deal of knowledge about basketball in general as well as talent evaluation.

Great interview. I’m sold, largely because of the culture he’d create.

Good piece — not for the writing (it’s badly written at times, overwritten at others, the writer more than once succumbs to “in terms of,” etc.), but for the picture it gives of who and what Connelly is.

In short, he seems to be quite competent. He took 3 players in '14, 2 in 2015, 4 in 2016 (a particularly adept performance in a weak draft), got the steal of the draft in '17 by taking Monte Morris (yes, the guy I wanted...) @ #51. Took a big flyer on Michael Porter last year along w/ 2 R2 guys.

That's 14 picks in 5 years. So we know who he's not like!!!

Such happy news! So long overdue. Now hire from the outside and fully clean house!

Connelly is good but he has missteps. He basically built the Utah Jazz into a solid basketball team by gifting them Mitchell and Gobert. He also made some mistakes in his early years with the nuggets. He’s an absolute upgrade over grunfailed but he’ll make some bad moves along the way.

I sure hope so, but I doubt it.

The GM should hire and fire the coach.
