How can it be that Jordan McRae doesn't have his own thread? & who better to start it than I (right, Ruz?).
Nate says of him:
nate33 wrote:McRae... played like a legit 7th-man caliber talent last year (and so far this preseason). He looks rock solid to me as a 20-25 mpg bench player...
McRae had a truly great pre-season shooting the ball -- he played 59 minutes in 3 games vs. NBA teams (sitting out the Bucks game) & scored 44 points on 30 shots & 1 FTA.
That's 30 points per 40 minutes at a .723 TS%. Other-worldly.
Overall, he really didn't contribute in any other way at all. Still... shoot like that & you don't need to do anything else!
OTOH, he'll have to contribute in other ways overall during the season, since there's no way he (or anyone!) can sustain that kind of shooting.
Jordan McRae is on the team. Off that pre-season he
deserves to be on the team. He's
earned his spot without a doubt.
Here's the question: has the day come for this late bloomer, who at 28 years of age has played a total of 912 minutes in 3 seasons in the league over the 5 years since being picked at the bottom of the draft in '14? Will Jordan McRae show that he is a solid rotation NBA player? Beginning tonight, we will find out.

Him and Mahinmi are the only 2 guys with rings on the roster

Even though he's Beal's backup, he's the best complement on the team to Beal. He's the second best player on the team in creating offense, and there's nobody even close at 3rd. He adds versatility to the team because he's really long enough and skilled enough so that he can play some at the 1 and the 3 - though his best position is the 2. He's NOT just a shooter. In fact, the 3 point shot is a way I expect him to improve his game this season.

Scientifically, a mallet fracture is when you take a mallet and smash your right ring finger with it.
Fun Ruz fact - I have a crooked right ring finger, because it broke in a fight when I was 12 years old, and it wasn't set straight by the doctor - perhaps preventing what could have been a great career as a hand model. But no mallet was used in the injury, and I can still shoot.

Well, no doubt, if he improves his 3 pt. shooting he improves his game. Ditto if he improves his... rebounding/assists/steals/etc.
He had a very good game vs. Dallas -- & if it scales, it illustrates your point. He shot well, but he also got a ton of rebounds & a bunch of assists.
23 minutes. But, still, if he plays all season at the level of that one game, or near it, I'll definitely be eating crow!

Yeah... but you should see the mallet!
He will be re-evaluated early next week the article says -- which I interpret as hopeful: the injury might not keep him out long.

Point being - it should be very easy for him to improve his 3 point shooting - to the point that I'd expect that to happen. Though it would be easier without a broken finger. Otoh, maybe they can rebuild his finger and make him better.

Sure. Why not?
In fact, he shot the 3 very well his first 2 years in the league -- while shooting 2 pointers poorly. With us last year it was the reverse.

Hey, Jordan McRae is having an excellent season so far. He was injured, so he's only played @100 minutes, but he has been very good.
I still would have kept Jemerrio Jones, but I should at least eat the appetizer version of the crow dish at this point!
(Right, Ruz?)

I think the screw in his finger popped out when he dunked in the second quarter over Williams. Glad he didn’t have to leave the game. He had some big moments in that 4th quarter comeback and closing minutes to secure the win over Charlotte.

I just looked up his combine numbers. He is only 6'-3.75" (no shoes) but he has a 7'-0.5" wingspan and an 8'-8" standing reach.
Of the 49 guys in my database with an 8'-8" standing reach, McRae is the shortest. Most of the guys with an 8'-8" standing reach are 6'-6" or 6'-7" tall (no shoes). He is one long-armed dude!

For sure -- & it's nice to have the combine confirmation. But, looking at him you can see it!

shoulda kept both of them. I'm obviously rooting for Jones, but until he starts scoring at a semi-decent rate, he's not going to get called up by Milwaukee.

The Athletic has an article on McRae - Here's how it starts:
WASHINGTON — Two years removed from the lowest moment of Jordan McRae’s career came one of his highest.
McRae had gone to Spain for the start of the 2017 season after signing with Baskonia, one of the top teams in the country. He’d spent most of the previous two years as a lightly-used reserve with the Cavaliers, with whom he won a ring. But Cleveland waived him the following season. He had a choice: Fight for another NBA roster spot or go to Europe, earn a payday and get playing time. Heading to Spain would present a better situation. Or so he thought.
Barely into the start of the season, McRae reached for a loose ball and felt a snap in his left shoulder. No contact. It was as fluke an injury as injuries can get.
“I looked back. My shoulder was, like, behind me,” he said.
He’d torn it up.
No showering for a week. No laying down for weeks beyond that. Playing Madden became a one-handed sport, which he eventually mastered. He...

I'm really happy for the guy. He is 28, which means that he has enough years left: he should be able to earn & bank a big chunk of money, & I hope that's how it goes down for him.

Wow, another Pif-induced injury.
