Game 37: Wizards @ Magic - 7PM

Post#1 » by nate33 » Wed Jan 8, 2020 2:12 pm

It's not a Monday, so the Wizards have their work cut out for them. They're 2-24 on days that aren't Monday.

It's worth noting that the Wizards offense did not look good at all against Boston. They won the game because Ish, and to a lesser extent McRae, managed to score a ton of points on high-degree-of-difficulty isolation plays. The team can no longer run it's usual free flowing offense with lots of looks from 3 because there's no spacing left. All the shooters are hurt: Beal, Bertans, Wagner, Mathews and Miles.

If the Wizards win this one, they'll have to grind it out defensively. That's at least possible with Mahinmi and Pasecniks in the paint and Payton, Bonga and Brown hawking the passing lanes. Orlando isn't great on offense.

That Monday thing has gotta be one of the most bizarre stats I've ever heard.

Without spacing and Orlando having time to prepare for that - I'm not at all optimistic. Ish could score 30, and we could still lose by 20. McRae's gonna have to score more efficiently than he has the last 2 games.

Excellent defensive gameplan and effort gave them the win against Boston .. let’s see if they bring the same tonight

'This is really good. Thanks for posting this. Even when I watched the game the other day, Isaiah Thomas is never in a defensive stance and this guy points that out. One other thing that frustrates me is Thomas jogs up and down the court and is VERY frequently the last one up and down the court.

If Wizards fans think this can still happen when Beal, Hachimura, Bryant, and Wagner come back, forgot about it. The video highlights how important Payton is even when his defensive box score numbers are not impressive. Also highlights how good defensively Mahinmi can be.

Puts into perspective how hard it is to coach defense at the NBA level . People seem to think the coach just has to scream at the players to give more effort on D , and it’s not that simple.

You can design the system to a tee but you need the right personnel (smart, athletic defenders like GP II, Mahinmi) to make it work.

They'll lose 110-90. Probably sit this one out.

Beal practiced but it’s probably best to let him get right.

Sounds like we're going with Beal and It with the all non-shooting cast of Glove Jr, Bonga, and Mahinmi.

Then we come off the bench with Ish, McRae, and Brown.

You're right - Beal is officially out - despite Ducler's efforts. McRae gets to be the official shot-jacker.

9 dressed, Schofield looks like he was getting his wrist taped? Maybe a finger?

How on earth does the jersey and court design make any sense here?

Hmm what’s up with the Halloween colors in Orlando? Really... Orange and Black? Not a fan.

Did they do this as a nod to Donald? Everything on my TV screen has an orange tint. This is really bugging me. Eyes hurt.

The Wizards just don't have enough players who can score. Basically, it's just Ish, McRae and maybe Brown. The team will be lucky to get to 80.
