GT#42: Double Bottom (13-28) vs. Race to the Bottom (16-27) - 01/20/2020 19:00 UTC
Today we honor Uncle Ted and the guy who said he had a dream once.
Hoping for one of those double bottom outcomes, a competitive game and more distance put between the Wizards and their competition for the lottery.
If Grunfeld was still around we might be watching our new starting center dominate the boards tonight.

2:00 tip-off, which means a guaranteed loss.
On the other hand, it's a Monday game which means a guaranteed win.

Tsze-Kung asked, "Is there one word which may serve as a rule of practice for all one's life?"
The Master said, "Is not Reciprocity such a word? What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others."

I can live with Mahinmi starting over Bryant, but they really should start one of Bertans or Brown in place of Isaiah Thomas. With Bryant to help provide some offense for the 2nd unit, they don't need all three of Ish, Brown and Bertans.
Brooks is asking Beal to handle all of the offense in that first unit. He's just not good enough for that. He's not James Harden.

Beal popped the question last night. I hope he celebrates with a MLK Monday win.

I know people have been roasting Leonsis over that MLK quote but I've always said he reminds me of some sort of cross between MLK, Harvey Milk, Malcom X, and Rosa Parks.

Yeah honestly it's an open question whether IT/Beal/Payton II/Bonga/Mahinmi or Ish/McRae/Brown/Bertans/Bryant is a better overall unit. I get making sure your bench isn't set up to fail, but this is something else.

I'd like to see:
Starters: Payton/Beal/Bertans/Bonga/Mahinmi
Bench: Ish/McRae/Brown/Williams/Bryant
If McRae isn't ready to go, then the bench should be: Ish/Brown/Schofield/Williams/Bryant, but with an effort to get Beal or Bertans to chip into Schofield's minutes.

Bertans played 6 mins in the 1st quarter. 0 shot attempts.

Nice...but look at the bench after the play. Mo Wagner out of the boot.
LOL. Wagner's celebrations are some of the best highlights of the season. That guy cracks me up.

It's impossible that Scott Brooks sees either Mahinmi or IT as capable of helping us win games. Nor -- obviously -- are either of them part of our future.
That leaves only one possible reason for Brooks to start either Mahinmi or IT -- to give these two guys exposure before the trade deadline with the hope that someone wants to give us something for either of them.
Am I wrong about that?
Breaking News: In a shocking development, Wizards owner Ted Leonsis has sold the NBA franchise to a consortium of participants in a discussion board devoted to the team on realgm.com. Details to follow....

I think Mahinmi helps us win games at times. The defense is definitely better with him on the floor and some of our best wins took place with him starting. He obviously isn't part of the future so I get the argument that he shouldn't play, but I don't think we are necessarily better when he doesn't play.

I have no problem with Ian starting. He has definitely made the Zards a better defensive team since getting healthy. We’re still bad defensively but better with Ian in the lineup.

Drummond has scored at will on Bryant. Mahinmi provides much more resistance.
