Ah no, his daughter was also killed... God... God bless them in heaven.

Sick to my stomach. Not that he or anyone cares (or should care) but I gained a lot of respect for Kobe the last few years of his career. Always knew he was a phenomenal player and talent but I really started to see his character as a person.

The NBA didn’t just lose a great player, they lost an ambassador for the game of basketball. He was going to do some great things in his post-nba career and now that’s gone. The fact that his freaking daughter was with him (and another parent/child) is just sickening.

RIP to the Bryant family. I hope people leave them alone and let them find some peace.

Absolutely devastating loss for our community. My favorite all time player, this one breaks my heart. Can’t imagine to the people who were close to him.

RIP Kobe... And his daughter , so sad....

You were special, a joy to watch on the court... Truly one of the best to ever play the game.

Anecdotally, because of today’s events, I happened to remember the time here on RealGM when Gilbert was at his peak and there were those crazy, long-winded, statistically-driven arguments that Arenas > Kobe.

Made me miss those times but also, really puts into perspective the significance or lack thereof. Which is not to say there isn’t a place for that crap and that it isn’t fun. But just that we remember that that’s all it is.

And now I’m sad.

Damn. This is a sad day. RIP.
Condolences to the Bryant family, and those who knew any/all who perished.

RIP to Kobe, Gianna and the other victims .

Completely sick and ruined over this.

At my parents house for the weekend, my brothers and I all grew up huge Kobe fans (still have his SI posters hanging in our childhood rooms) and we’ve barely been able to speak to each other or make eye contact since the news was announced. My mother lit candles and it’s been quiet as a church in here all day. This is a really tough one to swallow man..

The one thing I can say is Kobe will remain an inspiration for me until I’m gone. The man lived his 41 years as if he knew that’s all he had, he put his whole heart into his life’s passion and achieved everything he could. While also setting up his family for generations. If I can even do that by 81 , I’ll die a happy man .

Condolences to Kobe's family. Terrible tragedy for the NBA in what has been an awful year for the league. Losing Stern, all the injuries (KD, Zion, JW, Steph), load management, and poor ratings. I know many current players looked up to him and he played the game the way it was meant to be. He wasn't taking games off unless he was legitimately hurt and he giving you what he had every time he stepped on the floor. You might be a friend off the court, but you were an enemy if you wore an opposing uniform.

It's horrible news. Heart-breaking. The death of a child, & of a guy who was obviously an outstanding human being on many levels.

As is any pointless death. It seems that 9 people died in the crash. Kobe & his daughter Gianna, baseball coach John Altobelli & his daughter, & five others -- so far unnamed as far as I can determine.

Kobe Bryant packed a lot of life into those few 41 years.

He died being a good Dad. He died honorably and beloved.
Bye bye Beal.

Very tragic. I'd always imagine Kobe would be in those filmed roundtables in his 60s discussing the NBA of the past with other legends. Unthinkable that his daughter and the other passengers also perished. RIP

I also thought that Kobe was poised for a long career in basketball and beyond. He's a very smart guy, had all the resources in the world, and the drive to accomplish huge things. It goes beyond doing well with his money - he was going to do something really unique. Maybe related to elevating women's basketball because of his daugher(s). Maybe he'll follow MJ's path in GM/ownership. Maybe he becomes the commish. Of China. Whatever it was going to be, it would have been spectacular.

It really is sad. Too sad.

May his name be remembered as a blessing. All their names; the children, the parents.

& may we be reminded of all who die pointlessly, all who suffer for no reason.

May our hearts be with the mourners as well, hoping that they find strength to go on & peace in their lives.
