Read on Twitter

Carlson was very wise to quickly distance him in their interview and avoid any implications.

He's probably planning to watch Gaetz' next interview with a tub of popcorn.

Tucker set him up with that interview to clear HIMSELF and not help Gaetz or to get the details on the story. Well played tucker

I'm resigning myself to the sex trafficking investigation coming up with nothing. Maybe Gaetz isn't the monster he plays on tv.

I'm still not getting his claim that he was being extorted. It sounds like the alleged bribe was an offer to help him out of his legal problems in exchange for cash - which would be a bribe offer - but not extortion because there was no alleged threat. Nowhere was there an allegation that the briber was threatening to expose him or do anything else to him if he didn't ante up.

Gaetz might be Pervy dude but is there any tangible evidence that he did anything illegal? The 17 year old could cost him some time if that is true...but the rest of this sounds like a rich man doing what rich men do when- if I’m waiting on the evidence for Watson...I’m waiting on the evidence with Gaetz in this situation.

Beyond these allegations he seems like a horrible politician if representing the people is his job...if getting elected is his job...he is pretty good

I suggest you read about the investigation. Paying for escorts, illegal drugs and if given to a minor that’s a double whammy. Also he apparently was asking other girls to recruit other women. It’s like asking if anything Epstein did was illegal. And that doesn’t even scratch the surface of if he used government funds to pay for all of this which knowing the total douchebag and **** that he is most certainly did.

Oh so nothing new here. Again apart from the 17 year girl old crime (which dude should fry for if guilty)the rest of this sounds like rich men paying women consenting women for sex. The allegation is that consenting adults did drugs together. All of it is illegal but you think without the 17 year old he is going to jail? Not a chance...dude will get re-elected even if all the drugs and prostitution stuff is true in Florida. Clearly the people don’t care about corruption....

Baseball's decision to move their All-Star game out of Atlanta is stupid to the effect that it's counterproductive and hurts a good cause. Doing it to protest Georgia's voter suppression laws may have had good intentions, but it only punishes the city of Atlanta and its fans - innocent bystanders in this. Republicans are going to pounce on this very easily and probably successfully. And it makes the case that sports should stick it's wart-infested nose out of politics.

i agree with you that it won't change any voters' minds. even if gaetz himself gets canned, his district will just vote in another guy who's just as awful.

however, it is interesting that there's such a sharp line between 17 and 18 for the moral line drawers. Dude is 38 and about to turn 39 in a month. A middle aged man plying a bunch of 18 year old girls with molly so he can sleep with them is objectively a morally incorrect thing to do*. The law puts a hard line between 17 and 18, and the conclusion goes from "dude should fry" to "2 consenting** adults" ?

*any aged man using drugs to seduce women of any age is morally reprehensible. even climbing on top of your passed out wife is pretty f*cked up.

**you can't consent if you lack capacity, and if you're tripping on E, seems pretty clear that your capacity to give consent is impaired, if not eliminated.

Paying a legal aged woman to cross state lines for sex is not illegal. That is, paying for her plane ticket for an otherwise consensual sexual encounter is not illegal. If you offer her $1000 bucks on top of the plane ticket or otherwise coerce/threaten/blackmail her then that can be trafficking.

Paying to transport a minor across state lines for the purpose of sex is sex trafficking. Minors can't give consent under any circumstances. Well, except to other minors.

Having sex with someone who is intoxicated (molly, alcohol, whatever) is arguably rape, because the victim can't legally consent. Hard to get a conviction though. Our court system sucks.

As someone who believes all drugs should be legal or at least decriminalized, I understand and am sort of ok with Gaetz not getting any jail time for using small amounts of a banned substance recreationally. It sucks that he will not get jail time because he is the son of a wealthy white man.

Fact is the vast majority of people arrested for simply using recreationally get no jail time - people in jail for using generally have some other more serious crime going on as well. The injustice is that police pull over or question only (well, mostly anyway) non-white people for using, and that's how the other more serious charges are discovered. White people who commit the same crimes get away with it (more often) because they don't get pulled aside (as often).
These go to eleven.

So as bad you guys gonna think I am - I’m gonna say it....two consenting adults agreeing to entertain each other for money is illegal but I don’t think it should be. Consenting adults doing drugs...I don’t indulge but I don’t care if anyone else does as long as they don’t hurt anyone or risk others in the process (like don’t drive high)....Gaetz seems like a jerk but if everyone was consenting adults it’s gonna be hard to keep him out of Congress.

If that woman was actually 17...he is screwed.

I wondered about whether he was paying for minors to travel across state lines to states that had a lower age of consent. Florida's age of consent is 18. Neighboring states it may be as low as 16 or 17. That does seem to me to be trafficking. Even if it may be a grey area in the law considering state's rights etc. I dunno.

I wasn’t commenting on the morality as much as saying these things are the crimes that happen in plain sight and thus are by virtue that are passively acceptable... this embarrassing to him but has anyone said he forced himself on them or forced them to do drugs? It’s all...I’m a hooker and he paid- and these are the receipts...

While he is a rep in state where some of the largest porn companies on earth do business and pay women and men for sex and pay taxes that build roads and pay teachers And yes these porn companies fly people in for work or fly people to locations to make films....

Gaetz appears to be a jerk but humans appear to love drugs and sex...and will use their money to get it. Gaetz should just apologize for getting caught—— and if there w3re no minors involved move on.

maybe the NYT needed to fill column space but the copyeditor really should have changed "residents were worried about immigrants and minorities taking over from white people" to "residents were racists"
