He's 19 years old.
At least one analyst called him the best prospect in this draft.
Mike Schmitz said that a few years from now, looking back, we might see Deni as the best player to come out of this entire draft.
The guys most talked about here, if Okongwu was gone, were: Achiuwa (went #20), Saddiq Bey (#19), Nesmith (#14) & Vassell (#11).
We don't know how it'll work out, of course. But I'm pretty happy that we got him at the 9th pick in the draft. Seems like quite good value. Seems like he was the highest-value target available when we picked.
Schmitz history is suspect, he has called many players excellent and highest upside and ended up being Dragon Bender, Mario Hezonja, etc. No ESPN analyst is any good, they are all overly optimistic every player is the best player ever, when in fact you have a higher chance of being right if you're overly negative on every player.

"No mention of how Avdija shoots, defends, or anything. Just "toughness, emotion, and passing". We don’t even need the latter 2, we need shooting and defense, Tommy. We need a PG and a defensive center, Tommy. Not a 6’10 SF/PF again. Not Israeli fans, we barely have local fans.
Feels like a backstab. How hard is it to avoid the position we least need and the skills we least need? We don’t need another SF/PF. A wing with no strengths other than "playmaking". Our backcourt dribbles the air out of the ball. Wall doesn’t let other players make plays because he doesn’t contribute off ball at all, by shooting or cutting. We already have Troy Brown and Bonga in this exact situation going into next year."
I really don't like it when our coaching staff and management starts talking about emotion and playing the right way. It's never about tangible skills, it's becoming a meme at this point.
this is going to go down as Vesely level monumental screw up. I hope Beal jet's the moment his contract is up. We here at Realgm analyzed this draft and gave you all the info. that you needed, and after a full season of suffering, you go out and draft another Euro bust in the lottery. Fool me once...with Vesely...Shame on you... Fme twice with Deni...shame on me.
Once again, when Deni bust like Vesely did because the dude has poor form and bad hips, not even above average athlecism, poor standing reach, not elite agility, and. you have him going up against the top athletes in the world and you expect to win. We basically went out and got a ford escort to race against top playoff team Ferrari's. Now you see why Miami is always retooling. They see true inherent value in a player, not follow mock drafts. That's why Wizards have been a losing organizatin for all 50 years. Last time they went to a championshiop was back in what??? 1978. This is the reason why. This day and this day alone, we have direct evidence why you as loyal fans will never see a deep playoff team in Washington. It's because the decision makers lack skills to evaluate true talent and make emotional decisions based on toughness...instead of the information that we provided in nearly 100 pages on this board. My prediction, Beal will be in LA winning a championship. Wall will be back on IR reserve and still collecting his money and we will be lotto teams again for another 4 or 5 years.
At least i Have the redskins to look forward too. And I guess Leonsis inherited Ovechkin, it wasn't Leonsis leadership that brought him into the organization. OH well. NO point in rooting for Wiz after today for a while. Maybe I come back when we get a competent GM and not Grunfeld VEsely and Otto ..in the lottery? So many blunders using Emotions instead BBIQ to build your franchise. and most of this board are happy about Deni.
I don't know how you can make him longer than 8'4 and I don't know how you can magically make him explosive and finish above the rim, or have a coordinated above the eyesocket elbow. or even have paul pierce or. Gordan Hayward shooting form and abvoe teh rim explosiveness. I don't know. I tried. I believe we finally made the step forward but two step back is just back breaking.
Build your team with five shooters using Paul Pierce Form deeply bent hips and lower back arch at same time. before rising into shot. Elbow not pointing to the ground! } Avdija=young Paul Pierce
